The Director of Anesthesia Billing oversees the revenue cycle and compliance for anesthesiology practices. This critical leadership role maximizes revenue by ensuring precise claim submissions, managing denials, and enforcing coding guidelines for one of the most complex medical specialties.

Key Responsibilities
• Revenue Cycle Management: Directs the complete billing process, from charge entry and fee-schedule optimization to payment posting and accounts receivable (A/R) follow-up for the anesthesia group in an ASC setting.
• Coding & Compliance: Ensures documentation adheres to federal guidelines, monitors modifier usage (such as QX and QY for medical direction), and audits medical records to prevent billing errors.
• Team Leadership: Supervises and trains billing managers, coders, and A/R staff; overseeing hiring, goal setting, and performance.
• Financial Reporting: Analyzes financial data, prepares budget forecasts, and identifies trends in denied claims to minimize revenue leakage.
• Payer Relations: Works with the leadership of TOA's Chief Growth and Strategy Officer to develop reimbursement rates, and coordinates with insurance carriers.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
• Experience: Typically requires 5-10+ years of progressive medical billing and coding experience, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a supervisory or director capacity.
• Certifications: Professional credentials such as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the AAPC or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA are highly preferred.
• Specialty Knowledge: Deep understanding of anesthesia-specific billing rules, including base units, time units, physical status modifiers, and qualifying circumstances.
