Position OverviewThe Director of Adult Education provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the district's comprehensive continuing and adult education program. As a key leader within the district, the Director is responsible for driving organizational growth and ensuring that all adult learners have access to high-quality educational opportunities that promote economic mobility and community integration. The Director ensures the delivery of specialized instructional services, including:
- High school equivalency (GED and Adult Credit Diploma Program)
- English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Citizenship and Americanization classes

Typical Duties and Responsibilities- Curriculum & Instruction: Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of adult education curriculum and instructional practices to ensure alignment with state standards and learner needs.
- Fiscal Management: Develop and manage departmental budgets and oversee the administration of state and federal grants while ensuring rigorous alignment with district priorities and fiscal transparency.
- Instructional Leadership: Provide high-level leadership, supervision, and professional support for adult education faculty and staff to cultivate an environment of academic excellence.
- Compliance & Accountability: Ensure full compliance with all Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) regulations, grant stipulations, and mandatory reporting requirements.
- Strategic Collaboration: Partner with community organizations, state agencies, and district leadership to advance innovative programming and expand opportunities for the adult learner population.
Minimum Requirements- Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) Intermediate Administrator and Supervisor Certificate (092).
- At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience; currently holds valid teaching certificate.
- At least five (5) years of successful building-level or central office leadership experience.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams.
Highly Preferred Requirements- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole.
- Knowledge of and/or experience working with the Connecticut High School Credit Diploma Program (#106) is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in innovation and the design/development of new educational programs.
