Overview

The Director of Accounting and Finance Applications is responsible for the strategy, governance, support, optimization, control readiness, and delivery of assigned applications supporting accounting, finance, accounts payable, treasury, mortgage, title, and related compliance functions. This role acts as both a hands-on application expert and a leader of Business Application Analysts and application managers, serving as the highest level of escalation for complex application issues while partnering with Finance, Accounting, Mortgage, Title, vendors, consultants, and IT resources to deliver secure, controlled, and effective business solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary application leader and highest level of escalation for assigned business applications, balancing strategic ownership with hands-on problem solving in a lean, player-coach environment.
  • Partner with executive and departmental stakeholders to understand business priorities, assess operational needs, and translate requirements into practical application solutions, enhancements, workflows, and reporting capabilities.
  • Own the roadmap, governance, prioritization, and continuous improvement of assigned application platforms in alignment with enterprise IT standards and business objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to standardize processes, implement best practices, improve data quality, reduce manual work, and increase adoption of core business systems.
  • Manage Business Application Analysts, contractors, consultants, and vendor resources supporting assigned platforms; provide coaching, prioritization, quality review, and performance direction.
  • Oversee requirements gathering, solution design, configuration review, testing/UAT, deployment planning, documentation, training, and post-implementation support for application changes and projects.
  • Manage day-to-day vendor relationships for support, issue resolution, enhancement requests, roadmap understanding, and service performance; provide recommendations related to vendor performance, application direction, and business impact.
  • Ensure assigned applications comply with IT policies, security standards, change management expectations, access control practices, and documentation requirements.
  • Develop and maintain end-user training, onboarding materials, operating guides, support procedures, process documentation, and knowledge transfer materials for assigned applications.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, integration impacts, and business process gaps; communicate clearly with IT leadership, business owners, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership and direct support for applications used by accounting, finance, accounts payable, treasury, reconciliation, mortgage, title, and related control functions across Green Brick Partners, Green Brick Mortgage, and Green Brick Title.
  • Own application-related SOX control responsibilities for assigned systems, including ITGC support, application access controls, change management evidence, segregation of duties considerations, audit request support, and control remediation coordination.
  • Partner with the Chief Accounting Officer, Mortgage President, Title President, Finance leadership, Accounting leadership, and IT leadership to align application support and project delivery with financial operations, compliance, mortgage, and title business needs.

 Supervision of Others: Directly manages and develops Business Application Analysts and application leadership resources supporting finance, accounting, mortgage, title, and SOX-relevant applications. Also leads assigned contractors, consultants, and vendor resources as needed.

 

Authority/Budget/Decision Making/Discretion and Independent Judgment Ability:

  • Exercises independent judgment to prioritize application support, enhancement requests, issue escalation, testing, documentation, audit support, and project delivery activities.
  • Recommends process improvements, application changes, vendor actions, project priorities, control improvements, and business risk mitigation plans to IT and business leadership.
  • Does not hold final contract renewal or budget approval authority, but provides recommendations and supporting analysis related to assigned applications, vendors, controls, and business impact.

Location: Assigned to Corporate, Plano, TX, with ability to work from home in accordance with company policy.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Business, or related field required. CPA preferred.

Experience:   

  • 7+ years of business applications, ERP, finance systems, mortgage systems, title systems, or related enterprise application experience.
  • 3+ years of management, team leadership, or people leadership experience.
  • Experience supporting accounting, finance, accounts payable, treasury, mortgage, title, or regulated/control-oriented business processes strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Newstar Enterprise, Kyriba, BlackLine, Concur, LoanVision, Encompass, Qualia, and SOX-related application controls preferred.

  • Strong leadership, coaching, prioritization, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate as a hands-on player-coach in a lean IT environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and finance processes, application controls, audit support, access management, change management, and segregation of duties.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, testing, and process improvement capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, business leaders, auditors, end users, vendors, consultants, and technical resources.
