Job Description:

We are searching for the best talent for a Director, MedTech Trade Operations - North America to be based in New Brunswick, NJ.

Purpose: The Director, MedTech Trade Operations provides strategic direction and operational oversight for Johnson & Johnson's MedTech trade operations across the U.S., including Southern Border (Maquila Mexico) and Canada activity. This leader is accountable for developing and executing the long-term strategic roadmap for MedTech North America trade operations, driving flawless execution of day to day operations, strengthening functional capabilities, optimizing resources, and driving strategic programs to harmonize trade compliance operational requirements to a consistent, high-performing model.

This position also serves as a primary business senior interface to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for MedTech, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as applicable, customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, 3PLs, maquila partners, port authorities, and other governmental entities.

The role ensures rigorous Importer/Exporter of Record (IOR/EOR) compliance in US territory and leads the end-to-end lifecycle management of Special Regimes that might impact US jurisdiction to safeguard supply continuity and minimize financial exposure.

The Director, MedTech Trade Operations has executive presence and strategic clarity to mobilize teams, navigates effectively across multicultural and geographically diverse environments, makes data-driven decisions that enhance performance and reduce risk, and drives transformational change by establishing robust processes, clear accountability, and governance that deliver measurable operational and compliance results.

You will be responsible for:

Trade Operations Strategy & Execution: Create and Deploy collaborative enterprise-wide partner, co-developing trade operations strategies and solutions across a broad set of internal stakeholders including Global Trade Compliance (GTC), Health Care Compliance (HCC), Segment Supply Chain and Operations teams, and the Global Legal Organization (GLO). This includes jointly designing processes, governance frameworks, training programs, and scalable operating models that balance global standards with regional and segment-specific requirements. The role will actively engage MedTech operations teams to ensure trade solutions are embedded into day-to-day execution, while maintaining compliance and regional agility.

Strategic Supplier & Risk Management: Driving comprehensive oversight of North America trade-related risks with emphasis on regulatory exposure, cross-border vulnerabilities, and end-to-end compliance controls. The role establishes risk-based governance frameworks, implements corrective and preventive actions, and ensures operational resilience to prevent penalties, delays, and supply disruptions. Oversight includes targeted management of customs brokers and other critical trade partners to ensure their performance, data quality, and controls align with J&J's regulatory standards and support ongoing risk-mitigation objectives.

Change Management & Transformation: Lead change management and transformation initiatives, including defining and executing a structured transformation roadmap, building change capability across the NA and global trade operations team, and driving stakeholder alignment to enable sustainable process and operating model improvements.

Technology & Data Enablement: Partner with the Trade Controls Process & Technology team to operationalize capabilities and projects that improve existing processes to support trade compliance activities and/or business objectives at regional level. Drive alignment with business data owners to ensure compliant Cross Border Trade data, Import and Export filings with cross-border movements, and import and export licensing, including export due diligence practices.

Other Activities:
  • Ensure compliant trade operations while maintaining service levels and performance for high velocity logistics operations by providing expert guidance and driving alignment with the Global Trade Control Standard and evolving regulatory requirements
  • Drive required transformations across data, systems and processes to evolve to best in class compliant and high performing operations.
  • Support customs and trade compliance education, training, and roll-out of global standards.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures, controls, and process improvements to ensure risk and provide value to the business.
  • Drive the strategic roadmap for the upgrade and deployment of trade technologies and data solutions for Trade Operations, partnering with MedTech IT and Master Data teams to enable upstream data quality and ERP integrations that ensure accurate inventory controls
  • Support supply chain optimization efforts across the globe that minimize costs and reduce risk.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, IT, Tax, Finance) to ensure cross-functional alignment.
  • Partner with J&J Quality, Health Care Compliance, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure activities are managed within the appropriate corporate frameworks and comply with Johnson & Johnson policies, standards and guidelines, including RIM, Global Trade Standards, Procurement Policies, Travel Policy, and Training requirements


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Business, Law, or related field (or equivalent experience) required.
  • Fluent English and Spanish required.
  • Masters/Doctoral degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Business, Law, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in a related field is required.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders to drive enterprise-level business transformation, lead change, and deliver continuous improvement across multiple functions while achieving meaningful results.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a function within complex, matrixed environments, setting direction and developing strategies that improve performance and business outcomes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across the enterprise, building alignment and influencing stakeholders to enable effective execution within matrixed structures.
  • Demonstrated, visible people leadership capability with a proven track record of leading teams, coaching others, and developing talent.
  • Strong critical thinking and project management skills, with the ability to exercise independent judgment and manage complexity and ambiguity.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$150,000.00 - $258,750.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation -120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado -48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington -56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays -13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave - 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave - 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave - 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period 10 days

Volunteer Leave - 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off - 80 hours per calendar year
