Job Summary and QualificationsThe Med/Surg Director, under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer and Associate Chief Nursing Officer supervises and directs the delivery of patient care or care related services on the Medical Oncology unit according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the departments and hospital. Works cooperatively within departments to create a system of quality health care. Maintains current knowledge in areas of clinical supervision, determine staffing requirements, interview and hire all personnel for the departments, develop yearly budgets, conduct yearly performance appraisal for all staff, provide leadership in compliance with applicable Joint Commission standards and safety standards, and provide leadership in growth and development of new services in areas of clinical supervision.
Acts as a role model for professionalism for staff
Supports growth and development of staff through advanced education and certification
Engages staff in Shared Governance activities to strengthen individual and team growth as well as promote engagement
Responsible for strategic growth of the unit/service line
Works collaboratively with all admitting/receiving departments, peers and physicians to support continuity of care for the patients
Responsible for updating and creating policies and procedures to reflect scope of practice for clinical staff and incorporation of latest standards from HCA Clinical Services Group and accrediting bodies
Responsible for providing advanced education to Medical staff to increase critical thinking skills to provide care for post-surgical, oncology and medical patients.
Responsible for growth of unit based leaders: i.e. Nurse Managers, Educators, Clinical Nurse Coordinators in current roles and grooming for future opportunities
Attends internal PRH and HCA leadership development meetings and utilizes principles to promote professional growth and that of the department(s)
Is accountable for compliance with and completion of all Employee Engagement tactics as well as adherence to leadership standards of PRH Pillars: People, Service, Quality, Community Growth/Finance
Performs all other duties as assigned
Meets regularly with staff in a variety of forums such as 1:1 Rounding, staff meetings, huddles etc.
Ensures that communication of essential information is shared with staff and provides a consistent mechanism for bi-directional communication
Demonstrates an understanding of Service, Quality, and Financial metrics and works to improve metrics when not meeting standards; provides transparent feedback to staff to understand areas where the department is excelling and where addition focus is needed
Participates and encourages participation of Community events both internal and external to PRH
Education & Experience:
NH Licensed Registered Nurse or valid compact state RN license - Required
4 year/Bachelor's Degree - Required
5+ Years in Med Surg Setting - Required
3+ Years in Med Surg Leadership Role - Preferred
