Job DescriptionAlthough one or more potential candidates for this position have been identified, we will consider applications from any interested applicants.The PositionOrganon is seeking a motivated and experienced attorney to manage a diverse portfolio of litigation matters. This position reports to the Executive Director, Investigations & Litigation.
Responsibilities- Manage an active docket of U.S. and International matters including product liability, employment, securities, corporate/commercial litigations and government/regulatory investigations. The litigation management work involves setting case strategy, making decisions independently on day-to-day tasks associated with case-management and discovery, interacting with insurance carriers, reviewing draft court filings and conducting settlement negotiations.
- Provide regular updates and strategic counseling to business colleagues and other members of the legal department regarding litigations.
- Devise general risk reduction strategies and support learning initiatives, including through the dissemination of "lessons learned", to lower the company's litigation risk.
- Managing outside counsel to ensure that Organon receives the best possible legal representation which includes setting the proper scope of the engagement, developing reasonable budgets and controlling costs, and serving as the main company point of contact for outside counsel.
- Provide support, when needed, on internal investigations.
- Work cross-functionally with other members of Legal as well as colleagues from other business units to align on risk-reduction strategies.
Required Education, Experience & Skills- Juris Doctor or equivalent.
- Admitted to the Bar of New Jersey, Pennsylvania or another state.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in litigation, with significant experience handling product liability and mass tort matters in a law firm or corporate setting.
- Experience in life science/pharmaceutical sector.
- Experience with all aspects of litigation, including dispositive motion practice, depositions, oral argument, fact and expert discovery, trial and appeal.
- Proven ability to effectively and independently manage a significant workload, with the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast paced and challenging environment.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate risks and exercise excellent legal judgment issues with a propensity for developing practical but legally appropriate solutions to issues and challenges.
- Proficient in fostering an inclusive workplace where diversity of ideas and individual differences are valued.
- Proven ability to drive innovative legal theories and approaches.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and manage relationships with clients, co-counsel, and others.
