Full Job Description
Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director, Laboratory Services - Full Time, Days - Clinical Labs-Admin - Full-Time - Monday - Friday.

In this role, the successful candidate The Administrative Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the laboratory services for the institution. Plans and administers directly and through subordinate supervisory personnel effective management and delivery of diagnostic laboratory procedures in accordance with hospital and regulatory agency standards.

Job Responsibilities:

Performance Expectations: Strategic Planning

1. Plans and implements effective delivery of diagnostic services

2. Develops and implements Department P.I. Program

3. Oversees, develops and implements new technical procedures and

equipment.

4. Assists in development and implementation of Hospital Programs, and

events.

5. Prepares and maintains a variety of operational records, and procedure

manual, charges, expenditures, supply usage and so forth

1, Interviews, evaluates and hires laboratory personnel in all job classifications

2. Approves and recommends discharge of supervisors, technical and clerical

positions.

3. Updates and revamps as needed all job descriptions, performance

appraisals and competency assessments.

4. Assists in resolving complex employee relation matters.

5. Evaluates all subordinate employees for annual appraisals and competency

assessments.

6. Oversees completions of required safety, IC, education for all staff

Performance Expectations: Inter departmental Collaboration

1. Participates in Hospital committees

2. Volunteers to assist other individual and departments with workflow and

organizational changes outside laboratory services.

3. Takes active role in laboratory services provided outside department.

4. Serves as technical resource to hospital and medical staff.

5. Interdepartmental participation on all compliance issues.

Performance Expectations: Technical Management

1, Assessment of new technology and equipment.

2. Oversees development and maintenance of QC to ensure valid and

accurate reports.

3. Develops and revises Infection Control, Safety, and Chemical Hygiene Plan

for Laboratory Services.

4. Reviews, accesses and resolves with management staff incidents and

technical problems.

5. Oversees and serves as technical consultant for all laboratory disciplines.

6. Through subordinate supervisory personnel oversees P.O.C. testing, tissue

banking, interoperative blood program and rapid infusion equipment.

7. Working with Medical Director establishes technical policies, laboratory

reference ranges and QC limits, etc.

8. Looks for ways to expand and improve services.

Performance Expectations: Financial Participation

1. Develops and implements operating budgets for all laboratory sections.

2. Assists in assessing budgets for testing outside lab budget.

3. Evaluates capital equipment, negotiates contracts and medical purchases.

4. Monitors expenses and makes adjustment to accommodate variances.

5. Maintaining current knowledge CPT coding and regulations making

appropriate changes in laboratory charge master.

6. Works to improve hospital revenue.

7. Monitors schedules and overtime to limit expenses and improve services.

Performance Expectations: Information Technology

1. Monitors and works to improve laboratory system (Hemocare, Novius,

Tamtron).

2. Reviews lab reports, accessing accuracy.

3. Monitors lab TAT, develops project both internal and external to improve.

4. Updates Nursing manual on Policy Tech

5. Coordinates through LIS manager and Information Services to link other

systems inside and off-site (I.E. Reference Laboratory Services, Invision)

Performance Expectations: Audit Committee

  1. Meets with Audit Committee and reviews progress
  2. Helps assist Audit Committee with results of audit.
  3. Helps assist Audit Committee to implement changes as a result of audit.

Performance Expectations: Quality and Regulatory Compliance

1. Implements all state, local and federal regulations.

2. Provides training to staff regarding all hospital, state, DNV, and OSHA

regulations

3. Collaborates with Medical Director to meet current medical standards.

4. Investigates, resolves and makes changes in workflow or policies to meet

needs of hospital regulations.

5. Investigates and resolves all incident reports and patient complaints.

6. Is in compliance with all laboratory services surveys.

Performance Expectations: Time Management/General Performance

1. Organizes assignments and completes in a timely fashion.

2. Attends all required meetings and participates.

3. Completes in approved time all safety, competency assessment,

evaluations, budgets and reports required by management, finance etc.

4. Completes upon receipt in a timely fashion, all data, reports etc. requested

by other departments.

5. Is progressive and looks to change procedures and processes to meet

changes in Health Care.

6. Assignments are thorough and complete.

7. Makes sound judgements in emergency situations and directs staff

accordingly.

8. Safety needs are met and coverage is appropriate. Works with sections to

optimize current staff and encourages cross-training.

9. Maintain current knowledge of trends and development.

Performance Expectations: Staffing Requirements

1. Provides in-house education to staff.

2. Oversees training for Med Tech student.

3. Participates in training for P.O.C.

4. Implements customer service needs.

5. Provides a safe and clean laboratory for staff.

6. Provides appropriate tools and information to perform job.

Other Functions and Performance Expectation

Performance Expectations:
  • Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance
  • Adheres to hospital/department dress code. Arrives to work appropriately dressed, ell-groomed and neat.
  • Completes all hospital requirements at designated times (i.e. annual assessment, educational, MedNetTra)
  • Conforms to policies regarding confidentiality of information.
  • Follows call-in procedure hen sick, late or absent.


Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a 1. BS degree in Medical Technology or related fields
2. NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligible
3. ASCP Board of Registry or other preferred
4. Minimum of 5 years experience in all routine clinical and anatomical laboratory areas (i.e. Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Bacteriology, Serology, Blood Bank, Histology, Urinalysis, Blood Gases
5. Analytical skills necessary to plan, develop and administer department budget
6. Approximately 5 to 7 years progressive management experience to gain comprehension of a wide variety of Laboratory techniques, equipment operation, regulatory agency standards
7. Experience in organizing and directing activities of a large staff.

Required Licenses: Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $102,610.24 - $173,168.59 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
