Job Description:

YOU WILL BE:

We are seeking an exceptional, highly analytical Director, Financial Reporting to lead our financial reporting and technical accounting functions. In this high-impact executive role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end preparation, integrity, timeliness, and compliance of all financial statements and other reporting requirements and disclosures to both internal and external stakeholders for our omnichannel luxury retail business.

Serving as the organization's primary subject-matter expert on US GAAP and reporting compliance, you will drive technical accounting research, manage external audit relationships, and translate complex financial standards and financial trends into strategic insights for executive leadership.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Financial Close, Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Oversee the end-to-end preparation, documentation, and analysis of quarterly and annual financial statements, detailed footnotes, and disclosures (including 10-K, 10-Q, and MD&A, or comparable documents).
  • Direct the close and consolidation process across the broader accounting and finance organization, ensuring seamless financial accuracy and timely availability of data across retail banners and channels, and foreign subsidiaries.
  • Ensure all reporting strictly adheres to US GAAP standards, applicable reporting standards and requirements, and applicable deadlines.
  • Prepare reference books and executive presentation materials for periodic accounting and disclosure reviews with the CAO, as well as other materials as needed for the CFO, CEO, Corporate Review Team, external auditors, and Audit Committee.

Technical Accounting Research & Standards Implementation
  • Resolve complex accounting issues by researching authoritative literature (US GAAP), partnering with cross-functional teams to determine appropriate application, drafting clear, formal technical accounting memos, and leading cross-functional implementation/remediation workstreams.
  • Lead accounting evaluation, process implementation, and memo documentation for complex areas including:
    • Revenue Recognition (ASC 606): Omnichannel sales, loyalty initiatives, consignment and concession models, private label credit card programs, or other arrangements.
    • Lease Accounting (ASC 842): High-value commercial boutique real estate portfolios, as well as corporate and support facility network.
    • Long-lived and Intangible Assets and Impairments (ASC 350 / ASC 360): Lower of cost or net realizable value, shrink reserves, and boutique asset impairments.
    • Debt and Equity Transactions (ASC 470 / ASC 480 / ASC 505 / ASC 718): Debt and equity financing and equity-based compensation.
    • Other broad transactions and disclosure requirements as may be required: including segments, disaggregated reporting requirements, business combinations and divestitures, fair value measurement, and consolidation, among others.
  • Lead the continuous evaluation, adoption, and ongoing monitoring of newly emerging accounting standards, pronouncements, and regulatory guidelines.

External Audit Liaison & Governance
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to represent the organization with external auditors.
  • Manage audit workflows, coordinate the timely delivery of schedules and support documentation, and present technical positions to auditor leadership.
  • Maintain robust internal control frameworks (SOX compliance) across financial reporting and technical accounting workflows.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Executive Communication
  • Partner closely with Commercial, Real Estate, Legal, Tax, Technology, People and FP&A teams to assess the financial impact of major business initiatives and strategic deals.
  • Articulate and summarize complex technical accounting standards into clear, actionable business impacts for executive leadership and non-finance stakeholders.

Team Leadership & Talent Development
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of technical accounting and financial reporting analysts and specialists.
  • Foster a culture of analytical rigor, cross-functional partnership, and continuous process improvement.

    • Attention to Detail: Uncompromising precision regarding financial data integrity and strict adherence to reporting deadlines.
  • Systems & Technical Tools:
    • Proficiency in enterprise ERPs (e.g., Workday, SAP, Oracle) and specialized financial reporting/consolidation software (e.g., Workiva, OneStream, Hyperion, EPM).
    • Proven track record leading digital transformation or finance-system implementation projects.
