Full Job Description
The College of Nursing seeks a collaborative and strategic leader to direct the Felton Student Success Center and oversee student services operations. This position provides leadership, vision, and coordination for programs and services that support student success, recruitment, retention, progression, and engagement across the College.

The Director provides leadership that promotes teamwork, accountability, and service excellence while ensuring alignment with the College of Nursing's mission, vision, and strategic goals. Responsibilities include developing and implementing student success initiatives, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, overseeing assessment and program evaluation efforts, managing resources and budgets, and leveraging data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience, strong organizational skills, a commitment to student success, and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and community partners. This role plays a key part in shaping the student experience and advancing the College's educational mission.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Leadership, direction, and coordination in the Felton Student Success Center at the College of Nursing
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a strategic plan for the Felton Student Success Center.
  • Develop a plan for collecting student focused data, compile data on a regular schedule and share with administrative leaders.
  • Direct, plan, and oversee the day-to-day operations and activities of the Felton Student Success Center with emphasis on creating a comprehensive and collaborative environment.
  • Ensure the Felton Student Success Center is staffed appropriately, and position descriptions are updated regularly.
  • Ensure that staff are supported and mentored to be effective team members who can support each other and enhance nursing student experiences.
  • Effectively deploy staff to ensure teamwork to cover peak times for recruiting, admitting and advising across programs.
  • Provide direct supervision for Felton Student Success Center team.
  • Oversee financial planning and management of the unit including but not limited to creating budgets, authorizing expenditures, and advocating for funding to meet retention program goals.
  • Represent the College of Nursing to the University of Iowa, stakeholders, community partners, and collaborators as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison to Associate Deans, academic program directors, and division heads.
  • Represent the Felton Student Success Center in the college as needed.
  • Represent the College of Nursing as needed within the University of Iowa systems.


Recruit, Admit, and Retain Prospective and Current Students for all Academic Programs in the College of Nursing
  • In collaboration with Associate Deans, ensure robust student recruitment, admissions, and advising across all programs at College of Nursing.
  • Develop and execute evaluation plans for processes that support the student experience, recruitment, retention, and progression.
  • Ensure members of the Felton Student Success Center are equipped with best practices for engaging new and continuing students.
  • Ensure that the FSSC operates to support students from admission to graduation.


Enrollment Management
  • Oversee strategic planning for and implementation of enrollment management for all academic programs.
  • Advise faculty, staff, and senior leaders about curricular and demographic trends at community colleges.
  • Ensure adequate services to support transfer student outreach and programming focused on recruitment, student transition, academic success, and retention of incoming transfer students.


Academic Standards and Curricular Policies
  • Interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with university academic and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Academic Associate Deans to provide oversight for the procedures that govern student appeal processes over violations of the University of Iowa and College of Nursing student conduct policies.
  • Collaborate with others in resolving and escalating student concerns and grievances and positively impacts overall student satisfaction.


Communication and Outreach
  • Provide strategic direction and organizational leadership for large scale communications (e.g., admission policy changes, changes in degree requirements).
  • Build and foster key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a liaison to UI Student Life, the Graduate College, and UI Student Services including but limited to the Office of Admission, Academic Advising Center, Pomerantz Career Center, Registrar, Student Disabilities Services, and Student Financial Aid.
  • Lead collaboratively with the College of Nursing's dean, academic associate deans and the director of graduate programs.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communication team, academic program leaders, staff, and faculty to promote the academic programs.
  • Collaborate with College of Nursing Marketing and Communication team on Felton Student Success Center events and activities.


Required Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in higher education and/or student affairs or related field.
  • Typically, 3 years of demonstrated successful leadership experience in higher education/student affairs and/or academic program management.
  • Demonstrated constructive and collaborative relationship building skills with a variety of individuals and groups including peers, leadership, and external constituents.
  • Extensive experience in various aspects of student life such as admissions, orientation, advising and other programs designed to impact student retention.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing in a creative and fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with varied populations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret information (e.g. ideas, data, and needs) through appropriate communication methods and behaviors to provide excellent customer service and maintain working relationships.
  • Valid Driver's License and the ability to meet and maintain University Fleet Safety Standards.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in related field
  • Extensive experience managing varied teams and effectively developing/utilizing staff talent.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in data collection, analysis, management, and program assessment.
  • Extensive experience with University of Iowa policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of University systems (MAUI, ICON, etc.).
