The Director of Endovascular Surgery provides strategic, clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the Endovascular Surgery Program. The ideal candidate will impact patient care both
directly and indirectly by delivering high-quality, evidence-based vascular and endovascular care and overseeing program development. This role includes teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students.
The Director of Endovascular Surgery provides strategic, clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the Endovascular Surgery Program. The Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based vascular and endovascular care and oversees program development, physician leadership, quality initiatives, patient safety, clinical outcomes, regulatory compliance, and physician engagement. The Director collaborates with hospital administration, surgical services, interventional specialties, nursing leadership, and ancillary departments to advance the organization's cardiovascular and vascular service lines.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Leadership- Provide comprehensive endovascular and vascular surgical services in accordance with accepted standards of medical practice.
- Maintain a high level of clinical expertise in minimally invasive and complex endovascular procedures.
- Establish and implement clinical protocols, pathways, and best practices for vascular and endovascular interventions.
- Lead multidisciplinary case reviews and conferences.
- Monitor and improve patient outcomes, quality metrics, and patient satisfaction scores.
Program Development- Develop and implement strategic plans for growth of the Endovascular Surgery Program.
- Identify new technologies, procedures, and treatment modalities that enhance patient care.
- Evaluate equipment, device, and technology acquisition opportunities.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership to expand market presence and referral networks.
- Support outreach initiatives to referring physicians and community organizations.
Administrative Leadership- Provide physician leadership and oversight for endovascular service operations.
- Participate in budgeting, resource allocation, and capital planning activities.
- Develop annual departmental goals, objectives, and performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and retention of physicians and advanced practice providers.
Quality and Patient Safety- Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on clinical excellence and patient safety.
- Monitor key performance indicators, including procedural outcomes, complication rates, readmission rates, and mortality measures.
- Participate in peer review and credentialing activities.
- Ensure adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines and quality standards.
- Address patient safety concerns and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
Medical Staff Leadership- Foster collaboration among vascular surgeons, interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals.
- Serve as a liaison between medical staff and hospital administration.
- Participate in relevant hospital committees, medical executive meetings, and service line councils.
- Promote physician engagement and professional development initiatives.
Education and Research- Participate in physician, resident, fellow, and staff education programs.
- Encourage clinical research, quality studies, and scholarly activity.
- Support adoption of innovative treatment approaches and emerging technologies.
- Present program outcomes and quality initiatives internally and externally as appropriate.
QualificationsEducation- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
Training- Completion of an accredited General Surgery Residency.
- Completion of a Vascular Surgery Fellowship or Integrated Vascular Surgery Training Program.
Licensure and Certification- Active unrestricted NYS medical license.
- Board Certified in Vascular Surgery or eligible.
- Possess active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration or be eligible for registration.
- Must possess active Medicare/Medicaid Enrollment or be eligible to enroll.
- BLS or ACLS required.
Experience- Minimum of 1 to 5 years of clinical experience in vascular and endovascular surgery preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience within a vascular surgery, or endovascular program.
- Experience with program development, quality improvement, and physician leadership.
