Director, Complex Assets

The Role

The Complex Asset Group at Fidelity Charitable works with philanthropists, their professional advisors and issuer counsel to facilitate charitable donations of complex assets such as equity interests in privately held C corporations, S corporations, limited partnerships (including private equity, hedge fund and other alternative investment vehicles) and limited liability companies.

The Director of Complex Assets will manage the acceptance, oversight and liquidation of a wide variety of complex assets on behalf of Fidelity Charitable from initial inquiry to completion of charitable transfers, post-acceptance oversight and closings/funding of Giving Accounts upon liquidation of contributed assets.

Serving at the intersection of wealth creation and philanthropy, you will help make more of a difference for business owners, private equity investors, and their professional legal, tax and financial advisors, who are increasingly seeking more strategic ways to use growth investments to improve their philanthropic impact.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring:

  • B.A. or B.S degree required
  • J.D. required
  • CFP a plus
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of law firm or in-house experience preferred
  • Experience in taxation, private equity, and the private capital ecosystem desired
  • 3-5 years of relationship management experience
  • Experience working with financial intermediaries, TE attorneys, CPAs, CFPs for wealth planning purposes
  • Interest/exposure to philanthropy, charitable fundraising and planned giving a plus
  • Experience and high level of competence in the areas of due diligence and assessment of risk, including product liability and securities disclosure in connection with public MA activity
  • You are dynamic and personable and have a proven track record of taking the lead.
  • You have demonstrated a strong work ethic and are a continual learner.
  • You have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • You are professional and have a positive attitude.
  • You have superior time-management skills and the ability to prioritize and respond to competing requests.

The Value You Deliver

  • You will work directly with donors and their advisors through the entire charitable giving process.
  • You will develop a high level of competence in the areas of due diligence and assessment of risk, including securities disclosure in connection with public and private MA activity.
  • You will engage with and develop strong working relationships with donors, corporate issuers, in-house and outside counsel, C-suite executives and investor relations teams.
  • You will support the charity’s internal and external fundraising channels, engage and deepen relationships with the advisor community, and deliver effective practice management presentations.
  • You will work closely with internal partners to evolve, develop and deliver highly impactful practice management modules, strategic marketing and thought leadership.

Some travel is required*

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.

The base salary range for this position is $95,000-186,000 USD per year.  

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
