Director, Business Development
Defense & Aerospace Group
Location: North Reading, MA
Reports To: President, Defense & Aerospace Group

Opportunity Overview
Teradyne's Defense & Aerospace (D&A) Group is seeking a Director of Business Development to own the go-to-market plan for the business. This highly visible leadership role reports directly to the President of the Defense & Aerospace Group and is responsible for sales, marketing, and program management. The role has direct accountability for revenue growth, product margins, market strategy, customer engagement, and program execution across the group's portfolio.

This position is intended to develop rapidly into the General Manager role for the Defense & Aerospace Group. The successful candidate should be prepared to take on full P&L ownership, including engineering and manufacturing coordination, and broader strategic responsibility within a relatively short timeframe. Candidates should view this as a GM-track role from day one.
  • Lead the group's revenue strategy, quota structure, and account coverage model across defense and aerospace customers.
  • Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with prime contractors, government customers, and key channel partners.
  • Collaborate on major capture opportunities and ensure sales execution aligns with government procurement processes, contract vehicles, and export control requirements.
  • Build and execute product marketing strategies, market segmentation plans, competitive intelligence programs, and voice-of-customer initiatives that shape the product roadmap.
  • Support pricing strategy through new product pricing, existing product reviews, and cost optimization efforts.
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to ensure successful execution of customer programs and contractual commitments.
  • Mentor and develop teams across sales, marketing, and program management while establishing scalable organizational capabilities.
  • Sustain executive-level reporting, program health metrics, and cross-functional alignment to drive successful business outcomes.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in business development, marketing, sales, or general management within defense, aerospace, or a similarly regulated technical industry.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams across sales, marketing, field engineering, and/or program management.
  • Strong track record of revenue growth and executive-level customer relationship management with government agencies and/or prime defense contractors.
  • Experience in automated test equipment (ATE), electronic test, or a related capital equipment industry.
  • Working knowledge of defense procurement processes, government contracting practices, and export control regulations including ITAR and EAR.
  • Experience overseeing customer programs from contract award through delivery while driving cross-functional execution.
  • Executive presence and communication skills with the ability to represent the business with customers, industry partners, and senior leadership.
  • Demonstrated readiness and aspiration for general management and P&L ownership responsibilities.
  • Prior P&L, general management, or business unit leadership experience preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation: The base salary range for this role is $220,000-$352,000. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.

Incentive Plan: This job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
