Job Summary

The Director of First Time-in-College (FTIC) Admissions provides strategic leadership for undergraduate recruitment and admissions initiatives designed to attract, enroll, and support an academically talented student population. The Director develops and strengthens partnerships with high schools, early colleges, school districts, and community organizations to expand access and create pathways to student success. In collaboration with campus and external stakeholders, the Director leads innovative recruitment strategies, oversees the FTIC admissions process, and implements communication and outreach efforts that enhance the prospective student experience. Through data-informed decision-making and cross-functional collaboration, the Director advances institutional enrollment goals and fosters a seamless transition for students from high school to the University of Houston-Downtown.

Duties
  • Provides strategic leadership for FTIC in recruitment initiatives designed to attract and enroll new students in the university. Develops and executes innovative recruitment strategies, including high schools' visits, college fairs, and on-campus programming.
  • Leads and oversees all FTIC communication and outreach efforts, ensuring prospective students and their families receive timely, personalized, and engaging information regarding admission requirements and processes. Continuously enhance communication strategies to improve student experience and conversion outcomes
  • Develops, strengthen, and sustain strategic partnerships with high schools, early colleges and school districts. Collaborates with educational partners to expand access, create pipeline programs, and implement initiatives that support student recruitment. Represent the university at community events
  • Directs the undergraduate admissions review process to ensure efficient and timely evaluation of applications while maintaining compliance with institutional policies and best practices
  • Promotes exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming, positive and supportive experience for prospective students and their families
  • Collaborates closely with enrollment management, academic affairs, and student success and student life to develop a seamless transition
  • Provides visionary leadership and supervision for admission counselors by recruiting, developing, and mentoring the team. Fosters a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuity. improvement through performance management, team-building initiatives, and ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Oversees daily admissions operations and ensure the effective delivery services, resources, and programs that support recruitment goals and operational excellence
  • Collaborates with leadership in the utilization of data analytics, market analysis, and enrollment trends to assess recruitment effectiveness, identify growth opportunities, and inform strategic recruitment planning

Required Qualifications

Education:
  • Master's degree

Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant higher education experience or in a related field with progressive leadership working with undergraduate students

License/Certification:
  • None required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience in Student Services or Enrollment Management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of recruitment best practices, varied learning modalities, experience with marketing and communications, and working with students from various backgrounds
  • Knowledge of computer operations/data processing systems.

Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:
  • Ability to exercise group leadership skills which emphasize collaboration, consensus building, conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Ability to work as part of a team dedicated to collaboration and the university goal of increasing enrollment

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:
  • Works in an office environment

Physical Demands:
