The Director, Tax is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of all federal, state, and local tax compliance, tax accounting, tax planning, and tax regulatory matters for MidAmerican Energy Company, MidAmerican Funding, and affiliated subsidiaries. The position ensures accurate and timely tax reporting, compliance with applicable tax laws and accounting standards, and effective support of regulatory proceedings. The Director serves as the company's primary advisor on tax matters, evaluates the tax impact of business initiatives and regulatory actions, and develops policies, procedures, and controls that support the company's financial, operational, and regulatory objectives.

Responsibilities

Tax Compliance and Reporting
Direct the preparation, review, and filing of all federal, state, and local income tax returns and related tax filings.
Ensure full compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements.
Oversee all tax-related regulatory reporting requirements for MidAmerican Energy Company and affiliated entities. Direct the compilation and preparation of tax information required for regulatory, governmental, and corporate reporting.

Tax Accounting
Direct all monthly, quarterly, and annual tax accounting activities, including current and deferred income taxes.
Ensure accurate tax reporting for internal and external financial statements.
Oversee tax disclosures included in SEC filings, FERC reports, and other financial and regulatory filings.
Ensure compliance with applicable GAAP, regulatory accounting, and tax accounting requirements.

Tax Planning and Analysis
Research, analyze, and interpret federal and state tax law developments.
Evaluate tax implications of new legislation, business initiatives, financing activities, and strategic projects.
Advise executive leadership regarding tax risks, opportunities, and financial impacts.
Provide tax forecasts and analyses supporting budgeting, long-range planning, and financial decision making.

Regulatory and Rate Case Support
Support rate filings and regulatory proceedings by developing tax-related analyses, schedules, testimony, and pro forma adjustments.
Provide written and oral testimony before regulatory agencies and governmental authorities.
Participate in regulatory strategy development as it relates to tax matters.

Governance and Controls
Develop, implement, and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley, regulatory, and corporate control requirements.
Lead continuous improvement efforts involving tax processes, systems, and reporting.

Audit and External Relations
Serve as the primary company contact for tax audits, examinations, and inquiries.
Lead interactions with external auditors regarding tax accounting and compliance matters.
Represent the company before industry organizations, governmental agencies, and professional associations on tax-related matters.

Leadership
Establish departmental goals, objectives, and strategic priorities.
Develop annual budgets and manage departmental expenditures.
Promote employee development through coaching, training, and succession planning.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional excellence.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, or related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.

10 or more years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or industry, including expertise in tax accounting, compliance, and reporting.

Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex tax functions.

Extensive knowledge of federal and state income tax laws, GAAP, and regulatory accounting requirements.

Strong analytical, communication, strategic thinking, and project management capabilities.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred.

Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, preferred.

Utility industry experience, preferred.

Experience supporting regulated utility rate cases and regulatory proceedings, preferred.
