Duties

Help

As a Digital Forensics Examiner, you will:

• Analyze evidence provided by investigators stationed in multiple regions throughout the nation.
• Provide laboratory analysis of the contents of electronic storage devices seized during criminal or administrative investigations;
• Provide support and assistance to special agents regarding digital and mobile investigations and share expertise with co-workers in support of agency goals and objectives.

Qualifications

As a Digital Forensics Examiner, you will provide support and advice to the Office of Investigations concerning the searching and seizure of digital devices and related media; and the processing and forensic examination of seized electronic evidence and related media. The incumbent may be called upon to present evidence to federal Grand Juries as well as state and federal courts to determine violations of federal, state, and local laws.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:

• Leads on-site digital forensic operations and processes seized electronic evidence and related media as it relates to applicable criminal laws; AND
• Leads complex digital forensic operations and examinations of seized electronic evidence and related media and provides in depth analysis of the contents of electronic storage devices seized during criminal or administrative investigations ; AND
• Testifies before Grand Juries, courts, or administrative hearings on the facts of investigative cases, in particular the result of forensic examination of electronic and digital storage media and devices; AND
• Independently develops, writes and edits forensic reports and/or presentations, along with reviewing peer forensic reports to ensure compliance with CIGIE standards; AND
• -Provide on-site support, assistance, and guidance to special agents' computer crimes and forensic data recovery matters with respect to network systems, incident response capabilities, and malware analysis, in accordance with NIST standards.

For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:

• Conducts digital forensic acquisitions on site and processes seized electronic evidence and related media as it relates to applicable criminal laws; AND
• Conducts forensic analysis/review of electronic evidence including digital and electronic storage devices, forensic media, computers, mobile devices and other related electronic items and documenting conclusions from it; AND
• Testifies before Grand Juries, courts, or administrative hearings on the facts of investigative cases, relating to forensic examination of electronic and/or digital storage media and devices; AND
• Develops, writes and edits forensic reports and/or presentations.

Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:

• For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13level for 52 weeks.
• For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12level for 52 weeks.

Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (CONTINUED):

• A probationary or trial period may be required. Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period.
