Full Job Description
Developer III - Mainframe / COBOL for a on-site opportunity for candidates in Columbia, SC. Candidate will support a critical healthcare claims processing environment as a Mainframe/COBOL Developer, contributing to application development, systems analysis, testing, troubleshooting, implementation, and production support. The role requires close collaboration with technical and operations teams in a fast-paced, highly reliable mainframe environment.

Required Qualifications of the Developer III - Mainframe / COBOL:
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in application development, systems testing, systems analysis, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong hands-on experience with COBOL and IBM Mainframe development.
  • Knowledge of application development, quality assurance, testing, and systems integration methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical teams.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • C2 security clearance is required.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background and credit screening, including applicable U.S. residency requirements.

Preferred Skills/Experience of the Developer III - Mainframe / COBOL:
  • CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ, IBM Batch JCL, and Easytrieve.
  • Experience with HIPAA X12 5010 healthcare transactions, including 837, 835, 834, 270/271, and 276/277.
  • Healthcare claims processing, commercial healthcare systems, electronic data interchange, or provider information systems experience.
  • Experience with NDM, FTP, VPN, SYNCSORT, IDCAMS, FILEAID, ZEKE Scheduler, and IBM mainframe utilities.
  • Experience supporting file transfers between mainframe and Unix environments.

Responsibilities of the Developer III - Mainframe / COBOL:
  • Analyze requirements and system specifications and translate them into technical designs and application solutions.
  • Develop, modify, compile, test, debug, document, implement, and maintain COBOL/mainframe applications.
  • Investigate production issues, troubleshoot application problems, evaluate system impacts, and recommend appropriate solutions or enhancements.
  • Create test data and scenarios, validate application functionality, and ensure solutions meet business and technical requirements.
  • Prepare technical specifications, functional designs, workflow documentation, procedures, and other supporting materials.
  • Provide production support and participate in an on-call rotation while collaborating with development, operations, and related technology teams.

Work Location: Columbia, South Carolina - 100% onsite; no remote option.
