Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical / Packaging Design Release Engineer (DRE) to lead the design, packaging, release, and execution of shields and associated mechanical interfaces for 12V components for vehicle programs. This role is responsible for translating system and vehicle requirements into robust shield and package solutions for generators, inverters, converters, battery vent tubes, jump start nuts, and related 12V hardware that support performance, manufacturability, serviceability, quality, and program timing.

The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, product development experience, and the ability to drive cross-functional alignment across electrical, mechanical, packaging, manufacturing, quality, purchasing, and supplier teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design release responsibility for assigned 12V component shields and related mechanical hardware

  • Own mechanical design and package integration for shields supporting generators, inverters, converters, battery vent tubes, jump start nuts, and related 12V hardware

  • Develop and maintain component requirements, design concepts, packaging studies, and release documentation

  • Ensure shield designs meet vehicle packaging, environmental, mounting, sealing, durability, service, thermal, and assembly requirements

  • Create and review engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and engineering change documentation

  • Drive package integration within the vehicle environment, including clearance management, attachment strategy, surrounding component interfaces, and issue resolution

  • Work closely with electrical, systems, packaging, and vehicle integration teams to ensure shields for generators, inverters, converters, battery vent tubes, and jump start hardware are properly packaged and supported within the full vehicle architecture

  • Support CAD reviews, tolerance studies, DFMEA, DVP&R development, and validation planning

  • Collaborate with suppliers to review designs, resolve technical issues, and support sourcing and execution

  • Support prototype and production builds, issue resolution, root cause investigations, and implementation of corrective actions

  • Manage engineering changes and execute deliverables in support of program timing, cost, quality, and performance targets

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

  • Experience in mechanical design, packaging, or design release engineering for automotive components

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, packaging integration, materials, manufacturing processes, and assembly methods

  • Experience supporting shielding, brackets, housings, and packaging interfaces for automotive applications, including generators, inverters, converters, vent systems, jump start hardware, or similar 12V components

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T

  • Experience using CAD tools for component design and package reviews

  • Experience working in a cross-functional product development environment

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple technical issues and priorities in a fast-paced program setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with generator, inverter, converter, battery vent tube, jump start hardware, or similar 12V component packaging

  • Experience with shield design, under hood packaging, bracket and attachment strategy, or vehicle electrical power environments

  • Familiarity with shield mounting strategies, structural supports, vent routing, thermal protection, serviceability, and environmental protection considerations

  • Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance analysis, and change management

  • Experience supporting supplier technical reviews, validation, and launch execution

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

What Success Looks Like

  • Shields for 12V components are released on time and meet package, interface, and program requirements

  • Mechanical designs support robust installation, retention, serviceability, durability, and thermal protection in the vehicle environment

  • Cross-functional package and interface issues are identified early and resolved effectively

  • Supplier and engineering concerns are driven to closure with strong technical ownership

  • Shield designs achieve quality, cost, manufacturability, and performance targets
