Full Job Description
Application DeadlineApplications will be accepted through 9/16/26, after which we will begin candidate review. If the deadline is extended, we will update this posting.

Overview of Role

Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, the Design Engineer is a growing IC member of the Engineering team within Product Development. This role contributes engineering work across the full product development process from concept generation to production, and is responsible for developing assigned components and subsystems under the technical guidance of a Lead or Senior Design Engineer and the Design Engineering Manager. The Design Engineer produces concepts, builds and tests prototypes, designs parts using engineering tools and software, refines and iterates parts through feedback from testing, and creates the engineering documentation necessary for production. This role is building the technical mastery that supports increasing autonomy over time, and works closely with more senior engineers to develop that judgment through structured mentorship and exposure to challenging work.

Core Responsibilities
  • Reflect and role model BOA's vision, values, and Leadership Model across the team and organization
  • Execute engineering work on assigned components and subsystems, working with day-to-day guidance from a Lead or Senior Design Engineer and the Design Engineering Manager
  • Develop mechanical concepts to solve engineering challenges, bringing the work into review with sufficient rigor and preparation for productive feedback
  • Apply engineering calculations and analysis throughout the design process, and discuss technical details with other engineers
  • Create 3D CAD models of designs in Onshape
  • Build prototypes and iterate through fast-fail testing
  • Contribute to test method development and refine assigned subsystems based on test results
  • Create engineering documentation including 2D drawings, Manufacturing Instructions, DFMEAs, and Tolerance Stack-Ups
  • Coordinate with external vendors on the development of production tooling and production ramp-up, with support from more senior engineers on higher-consequence decisions
  • Come to reviews with recommendations, not just questions. Use manager and Lead feedback to sharpen your technical judgment over time.
  • Proactively support the continuous improvement of BOA's engineering processes and tools

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline
  • 2+ years of engineering experience, including significant contribution to one or more product development projects
  • Proficiency in Onshape (preferred) or another 3D CAD system (SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, NX, SolidEdge, Inventor)
  • Exposure to manufacturing methods used in BOA's products (plastic injection molding, sheet metal, wire forming, powdered metal, small part assembly, textile manufacturing)
  • Experience applying engineering analysis methods using tools like Excel, Minitab, MATLAB (or other languages), and FEA
  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships with diverse groups of people across the globe

Desired Qualifications

  • Exhibits a continuous learning mindset, proactively seeking opportunities to develop technical expertise, expand manufacturing knowledge, and improve engineering practices.
  • Advanced experience in Onshape including top-down modeling strategies and surfacing
  • Hands-on experience with machine shop equipment and 3D printers, and comfort making simple prototype parts
  • Experience working with overseas contract manufacturers

Overview of Compensation and Benefits
  • Budgeted salary range: $75,000 - $100,000
    • We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to any other employees with similar experience in the same or similar role
    • This role is also eligible for a 10% annual bonus
  • Comprehensive healthcare plans including Medical, Dental and Vision
  • All plans include subsidization from BOA, with one option 100% subsidized by BOA
  • BOA also funds HSA accounts for enrolled employees
  • 3 weeks PTO to start, paid family leave, sick leave, and volunteer time off
  • Matching 401K retirement plan
  • Annual cash benefits for fitness, wellness, and BOA products
  • Eligibility for stock options within 6 months of employment
  • Scholarship opportunities for further education
  • Flexible working schedule that includes both days at home and days in the office when needed
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Discounts on many outdoor gear brands
  • Dog-friendly office
