Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Southern Wisconsin Center (SWC) is recruiting to fill a Deputy Director position.

This position will generally work Monday through Friday from 7:45am to 4:30pm. Additional hours and 24-hr on-call will occasionally be required. SWC is a 24/7 facility.

Position Summary

As the SWC Deputy Director, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and administering a complex interdisciplinary program of appropriate active treatment, care, habilitative, and rehabilitative services for individuals with intellectual disabilities in both the Long-Term Care and Intensive Treatment Programs. This includes supervising a qualified and trained staff of managers, professionals, paraprofessionals, and other personnel. SWC service areas include Residential Living Units, Social Services, Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional Services, Psychological Services, Therapy Services, and Centralized Scheduling for the Center.

Salary Information

The starting pay is is $61.08 to $63.63 per hour (approximately $127,000 to $132,300 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 24-month Career Executive trial period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Deputy Institution Superintendent and is in pay schedule and range 81/01.

Job Details

All appointees will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of the start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include all of the following:

  • Experience in management of treatment services and personnel.
  • Experience supervising subordinate supervisors (e.g., providing direction, leadership, staff development, coaching, conflict resolution to mid-level/line supervisors, etc.).
  • Experience managing resources within an established budget.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience leading or overseeing strategic planning or quality improvement initiatives.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Posses the federal qualifications as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional as outlined in 483.430 of the Code of Federal Regulations .
  • Possession of a Wisconsin Nursing Home Administrator's license and experience in a long-term-care setting. If not licensed, selected candidate must be licensed within one year of hire.
  • Experience participating in state and federal regulatory surveys and the implementation of Plans of Correction.
  • Experience leading professional development for a diverse workforce.
