Full Job Description
The Rappahannock Regional Jail is seeking a Deputy Director of Information Technology to perform difficult advanced technical and administrative work planning, organizing, coordinating, and participating in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Jail's electronic data processing, management information systems, and information technology infrastructure.

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans, implements, administers, and maintains information technology infrastructure, systems, and operations; providing advanced technical support and guidance for servers, network systems, virtualization platforms, storage systems, backup solutions, operating systems, and related technology resources.


  • Serves as the technical lead for information technology projects, system upgrades, installations, and implementations; evaluates technology needs, researches solutions, and assists with the planning and coordination of technology initiative.


  • Administers, maintains, and troubleshoots enterprise server environments, including operating systems, user accounts, directory services, security policies, software deployments, and system configurations.


  • Monitors system performance, availability, and security; performs maintenance, updates, patching, troubleshooting, and corrective actions to ensure reliable operation of information technology systems.


  • Coordinates contract services, vendor support, repair work, and equipment purchase; assists with quotes, purchase orders, procurement documentation, and other administrative functions related to information technology operations.


  • Performs maintenance and troubleshooting of network equipment, phone systems, electronic security systems, intercoms, cameras, communication systems, and other technology infrastructure as assigned.


  • Provides advanced technical support, training, and guidance to employees regarding hardware, software, applications, and information technology procedures.


  • Assist the Director of Information Technology with departmental operations, planning, documentation, budget activities, and administrative functions.


  • Participates in the Information Technology on-call rotation, providing after-hours, weekend, and holiday support for critical information technology systems and responding to emergency service requests as required.


  • Serves as Acting Director of Information Technology during the Director's absence and exercises delegated authority as assigned.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, information technology, or related field; considerable experience in systems administration, network administration, or information technology operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and progressively responsible experience. Extensive experience administering enterprise information systems, severs, network infrastructure, and related technology environments is preferred.


Special Requirements

  • Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.


Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of systems analysis, programming, and computer operations in an on-line, networked and batch processing environment; thorough knowledge of the functions and operations of jail departments; ability to determine departmental and agency-wide needs of an information system and formulate an effective program to meet these needs; skill in planning, budgeting, and technical writing for maintenance and repair work for a variety of technology based hardware and software; ability to write clear and concise reports; ability to plan and supervise the work of professional and technical personnel; ability to communicate ideas effectively orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, department heads, vendors, and the general public.
