Examples of Duties

The Deputy Chief is a sworn position that plans and administers directly and through mid-level supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of quality services for the Police Department. This position participates in the investigation and resolution of Village resident and employee concerns and complaints. This position ensures personnel documentation is maintained in accordance with Department, Village and regulatory agency requirements. The Deputy Chief enforces departmental and Village policies and procedures ensuring integrity and consistency.

Typical Qualifications

Qualified individuals will be expected to have advanced leadership skills in a unionized environment with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience and formalized command training. Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field required. Candidates must demonstrate strong skills and/or experience in community policing, public relations, customer service, community organizations, gang prevention and crime intervention strategies. Problem solving, flexibility, initiative and communication/ interpersonal skills are needed with a team-management orientation. The successful candidate will have a high regard for community values, particularly the values emanating from a diverse community. The hiring process for this position will include preparing a written response to a series of questions, an oral interview process, a review of past performance and other assessment exercises.

Supplemental Information

The current salary range is $134,097.60 - $194,459.20. Starting rate is dependent upon qualifications.
