Summary:
Reporting directly to the Vice President & Director of Athletics, the Deputy Athletic Director will play a critical role in ensuring operational excellence while advancing student-athlete opportunities through dynamic Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) initiatives. This leader will embody the University's commitment to service, excellence, and integrity, while aligning internal & external functions and strategic partnerships to elevate AAMU Athletics.
Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Internal & External Operations Oversight
  • Provide senior leadership over internal & external departments, including facilities, event operations, equipment services, philanthropy, and select sport programs.
  • Implement innovative and sustainable strategies to improve operational effectiveness and fan experience at Louis Crews Stadium, The Event Center, and other athletic venues.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure compliance with institutional policies, budgeting protocols, and student-centered programming.
  • Champion professional development for athletics staff and graduate assistants.
Strategic NIL Leadership
  • Lead Alabama A&M's NIL strategy by developing robust educational resources, compliance protocols, and partnership models tailored to the unique opportunities for student-athletes at HBCUs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to external NIL collectives, digital platforms, and legal counsel to facilitate equitable and transparent NIL engagement.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in state, NCAA, and federal NIL legislation and advise athletics leadership accordingly.
  • Advocate for holistic student-athlete growth by integrating NIL with leadership, branding, and financial literacy training.
Executive Collaboration & Strategic Vision
  • Partner with the Vice President & Director of Athletics and University leadership on initiatives that advance the Bulldogs' athletic legacy and national profile.
  • Represent Alabama A&M Athletics at campus, SWAC, and NCAA meetings, with a focus on operational innovation and student-athlete well-being.
  • Assist in cultivating strategic partnerships that strengthen the department's financial sustainability and branding.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
  • Master's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership in collegiate athletics administration.
  • Proven track record in operational oversight and NIL program development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the HBCU athletics ecosystem and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and project management skills.
