How you make a differenceThe Dentist is responsible for providing dental services to inmate patients within the institution they are assigned to, while adhering to the security regulations of the facility. They are required to maintain accurate and timely documentation of their services and provide it to the director or designee to ensure compliance with client contract and proper compensation for services rendered.
Key Responsibilities- Provides dental care and treatment to referred patients in accordance with facility regulations and standards.
- Performs routine cleaning, restorative dentistry, and extractions as needed.
- Evaluates patients' dental care needs and makes clinically appropriate recommendations.
- Takes impressions for dental appliances and instructs patients in good dental hygiene techniques.
- Maintains accurate and confidential patient records and provides in-service training for health staff members.

The dentist position is 40 hours per week and works 20 hours per week at the downtown jail and 20 hours per week and the Community Reiteration Center (formerly House of Correction). You will typically work 10 hour shifts M-T, times are flexible as long as it works for both the dentist and their assistant (already on staff). The two facilities are about 12 miles from each other or a 20 minute drive. General duties include reviewing X-rays, extractions, annual exams (for patients who have been here for a year+), treating infections/abscesses. You will not be performing general cleanings and complicated extractions are sent out. I hope that covers it!
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation
- Graduate from an accredited school of dental medicine.
Experience
- One year of experience in general dentistry preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
- Must have and maintain current licensure as a dentist within the state of employment.
- Must obtain and maintain CPR certification.
