Full Job Description
Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is recruiting for a full-time Dentist. This position will typically work daytime hours.

MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, and is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system. Our overall service delivery goal is to provide specialized services in treatment, research, training and consultation.

Position Summary

As the Dentist, you will provide routine and acute dental care to patients of MMHI and Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center (MJTC). Care will generally mirror those of a community based dental clinic and encompass a spectrum from routine screening exams/preventative cares to acute procedures such as fillings and extractions. Other complex extractions/procedures will be referred to an oral surgery group as needed.

MMHI has an overall Active Treatment philosophy of using evidence-based strategies, practices and programs which target patient's individual preferences and needs.

Salary Information

The starting pay for this position is between $249,600 and $257,900 per year, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 10/51.

Job Details

All applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have:

  • Licensure or eligible for licensure to practice dentistry in the State of Wisconsin. Eligible is defined as licensed in another state and able to obtain license in Wisconsin. Licensure must be obtained by time of appointment.
  • Possess DEA Registration or be eligible to obtain DEA Registration. Candidates must obtain registration by time of appointment. Note: Registration fee may be waved for individuals required to obtain in order to carry out duties in a state or federal agency.
  • Experience working in an ambulatory dental clinic providing direct care for patients.

Well qualified applicants will also have:

  • Experience providing dental care to incarcerated or forensic patients.
  • Experience participating in Joint Commission or similar accreditation processes resulting in a successful site visit.
  • Experience developing policies regarding standards of dental care.
