Full Job Description
This is an entry-level professional position on our Declassification Analysis team and training is provided.

Work is 100% ON-SITE (no remote). Work takes place primarily at the National Archives & Records Administration (NARA) facility in College Park, Maryland.

Planned start date for this position is September 8, 2026.

As a Declassification Analyst I, you'll gain specialized training while playing a vital role in safeguarding some of our nation's most sensitive national security information, making a real impact as you grow your career. Your analytical work directly shapes how critical government information is understood, protected, and responsibly released to the public.

The Declassification Analyst I conducts declassification reviews and analyses of classified government information relating to nuclear weapons technology and naval nuclear propulsion systems. This work takes place primarily at the NARA II facility in College Park, Maryland. Analysis of classified records for purposes of declassification is performed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, DOE orders, and DOE Office of Classification procedures for Restricted Data (RD), Formerly Restricted Data (FRD), and National Security Information (NSI) related to technical areas such as:
  • Nuclear weapons design, development, testing, production, and deployment
  • Special nuclear material (SNM) production technologies
  • Nuclear weapons safeguards and security, and transportation
  • Intelligence/counterintelligence
  • Chemical and biological defense activities
  • Radiological weapons
  • Space nuclear reactors
  • Naval nuclear propulsion


Compensation Range: $75,000-$90,000/Year

Requirements
Security Clearance:
  • MUST possess an active DOE Q clearance or an active DOD Top Secret clearance


Location:
  • Applicants must reside within a 1-hour commute from College Park, Maryland


Skills:
  • Applicants MUST pass an online pre-employment reading comprehension assessment


Experience:
  • This is an entry-level position and training is provided
  • Experience in classification and/or declassification is not mandatory but highly sought after
  • Individuals who have completed DOE's Historical Records Restricted Data Reviewers (HRRDR) course are strongly encouraged to apply


Education:
  • Although a Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science, or nuclear sciencefrom an accredited university or college is required,
    • Individuals with a Bachelor's degree and any other relevant training in nuclear weapons or nuclear reactor technology will be strongly considered
    • Individuals with a Bachelor's degree and experience in related declassification analysis will be strongly considered
    • Graduates of the Navy Nuclear Power School are urged to apply regardless of their academic major
