TITLE: Dean of Teaching & Learning - Secondary

REPORTS TO: Principal

SUPERVISES: Building Teachers and Support Staff

EMPLOYMENT: Full time (205 days)

SUMMARY

To assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law. To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development. To serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists with the hiring, support and retain effective staff; develop or exit low performers. Systems Management
  • Assists with allocating resources to best support school improvement
  • Builds and maintains a safe and orderly school environment that meets the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of each student.
  • Provides coherent support services and accommodations to meet the needs of each student
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Assists in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies Instructional Leadership
  • Conducts high quality classroom observations, identifies effective teaching practices, and understands pedagogy that results in improved student learning
  • Assists with the develop staff members' professional knowledge, skills and practice through differentiated opportunities for learning and growth

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in elementary or secondary education
  • Master's degree or higher in Educational Leadership or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching/administrative experience


COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from the Board, parents, staff, and the community


REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Michigan Administrator Certificate (possess or willing to obtain a Michigan Department of Education Administration Certificate within three years of hire)

11-month, 205 days
