Job Title: Dean of Curriculum & Instruction - ML
Reports to: Head of School, Asst. Head of School

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

The LHS Campus Dean of Curriculum & Instruction responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Cross-Campus and District Instructional Leadership
Participate as an active member of the high school's Instructional Leadership Team (ILT)
Participate as an active member of the Lower School ILT and Upper School ILT, attending weekly meetings to report progress, indicate areas in need of improvement, and complete data-driven action steps to improve teaching and learning for MLs
Liaison with the Language Acquisition Teams to promote their ability to improve instruction for MLs across campus and track ML progress
Collaborate with the District Department of Multilingual Learners to stay abreast of opportunities for teachers and students; participate in district-wide PD
Support teachers and leaders in developing asset-based approaches to ML education and celebrate the achievements of ML students across campus
Train teachers in ACCESS and WIDA Model data analysis and WIDA Can-Do Descriptors, assisting teachers/teams in aligning lessons to this information
Attending district-wide ESL teacher check-in and LAT team check-ins
Providing district-wide half and full-day Professional Development sessions

Curriculum

Lead common planning time for ML teaching staff and participate in content team planning team, supporting the leadership of the DCIs of Science and History as necessary
Review LHS 9-12 curricula (StudySync, Illustrative Math, and OpenSciEd) for opportunities to better serve MLs and work with teachers and teams to understand and implement changes
Participate in cross-campus learning walks to measure the impact of the implementation of curriculum and opportunities to expand access and support for MLs
Support intervention teachers in using high-quality curriculum materials to meet the needs of ML students

Instruction

ML Co-Teaching
Support the development of the campus-wide ML Co-Teaching Model
Track the implementation of core components of the Co-Teaching Model including the co-planning process and collaborate with campus and academy ILTs to implement improvements

Teacher Supervision and Evaluation

Serve as a campus-wide instructional coach for all ML Co-Teaching teams based on the LHS ML Co-Teaching Look-For Tool; follow LHS best practices in coaching via the Lynch Leadership Academy model
Evaluate a subset of Upper and Lower School ML Teachers

Professional Development

Lead campus-wide and academy-based professional development sessions to support the implementation of the LHS Vision with a focus on the needs of Multilingual Learners
Liaison with professional development providers to create professional learning opportunities that align to the LHS Vision and meet the needs of MLs

Assessment

As part of the data-inquiry process, support content teams and individual teachers in identifying skill gaps in the data, identifying SEI strategies to meet students' needs, implementing the action steps, and reflecting on the impact
Support the implementation of the State Seal of Biliteracy by collaborating with the Content Lead for World Language

Continued Growth
Participate in the district instructional coaching cohort with Impact Coaching
Attend local, national, and international conferences and professional learning opportunities and bring best practices back to LHS leadership and faculty
Stay abreast of best-practices in the field via current literature
Visit in and out-of-district schools to deepen understanding of best practices and ways to improve teaching and learning at LHS

Qualifications

The LHS Camus Dean of Curriculum & Instruction For Multilingual Learners should possess the following skills and attributes:
Unvarying belief that all students are capable of academic achievement at the highest levels and it is the responsibility of teachers and leaders to reduce barriers to success
At least five years of teaching experience with Multilingual Learners, preferably in an urban setting, with the ability to demonstrate the use of data to bring about measurable impact on student achievement
Experience leading adults, instructional coaching experience preferred
Extensive knowledge of language development theory, WIDA standards, and best practices in the field of Multilingual Learner education
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
Ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm in the face of challenges
ESL license and SEI Endorsement
Bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree is preferred;
Valid Massachusetts Administrative License for 9-12
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Current authorization to work in the United States.
