Full Job Description
Job Summary:

The Database Programmer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SQL Server database objects, ETL processes, reports, dashboards, and data extracts that support operational reporting and business analytics across AnovoRx. This role partners with the Reporting and Business Analytics team and business stakeholders to translate raw operational data into reliable, well-structured, production-ready datasets that support decision-making in a specialty pharmacy environment serving patients with rare diseases. The position also supports key initiatives, including Aperture, while ensuring data handling practices protect PHI and comply with HIPAA requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain SQL Server database objects, including stored procedures, views, functions, triggers, tables, and related structures.
  2. Build, enhance, and optimize ETL processes to extract, transform, validate, and prepare data from core systems, including CPR+, for reporting, dashboards, analytics, and operational use.
  3. Develop and maintain reporting and dashboard data sources using tools such as SSRS, Power BI, or similar business intelligence platforms.
  4. Support the Aperture project and other active initiatives by delivering accurate, timely, and well-documented data extracts, queries, and database development support.
  5. Tune queries, indexes, and database logic to improve performance, scalability, and reliability across growing data volumes.
  6. Partner with analysts, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to understand ad hoc and recurring data needs and translate them into sustainable, production-ready database solutions.
  7. Maintain data dictionaries, schema documentation, ETL documentation, and technical specifications to support transparency, continuity, and knowledge transfer.
  8. Troubleshoot database, reporting, data integrity, and performance issues; identify root causes and recommend or implement corrective actions.
  9. Ensure database development, data extraction, and data handling practices are consistent with HIPAA requirements and Company policies for safeguarding PHI and confidential information.
  10. Follow database development best practices, coding standards, testing procedures, and change management processes to promote quality and reliability.
  11. Other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.


Minimum Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Required

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent professional experience required.
  2. Minimum of three years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL development, stored procedures, views, functions, and related database objects.
  3. Experience building, maintaining, and optimizing ETL pipelines using SSIS or an equivalent ETL tool.
  4. Strong understanding of relational database design, normalization, indexing strategy, query tuning, and database performance optimization.
  5. Experience supporting reporting and business intelligence tools such as SSRS, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  6. Ability to translate ad hoc and recurring business data needs into accurate, reliable, production-ready SQL queries, data extracts, and reporting datasets.
  7. Snowflake, Azure, a strong understanding of cloud databases, and project/data migration
  8. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to document data structures, schemas, ETL processes, technical specifications, and recurring reporting logic.
  9. Experience in healthcare, pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, or another regulated data environment preferred.
  10. Familiarity with specialty pharmacy systems, including CPR+, preferred.
  11. Working knowledge of HIPAA data handling requirements and safeguards for PHI preferred.
  12. Scripting experience, such as Python or PowerShell, for automation preferred.
  13. Exposure to Azure SQL or other cloud-hosted SQL Server environments preferred.
  14. Must have excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  15. Must have history evidencing reliability and consistency in timeliness, attendance, and quality of work.
  16. Must articulate thoughts well and communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  17. Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with analysts, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
  18. Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  19. Must not have history evidencing dishonesty, lack of trustworthiness, or workplace violence.
  20. Must pass the Company's drug test and background screening prior to start of employment.
  21. Cannot be disqualified or suspended from participation in any state or federal healthcare program.
