Job Summary: Seeking a Software Engineer to design, build, test, and maintain robust database solutions as a Database Engineer/Administrator (DE/DA) that support a specific program within the organization. This role ensures the efficiency, security, and reliability of database applications while aligning with business objectives. The Database Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement new technologies, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance. Key Responsibilities: Software Development & Implementation: • Design, develop, and implement scalable and efficient software solutions to support program needs. • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices and coding standards. • Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance software capabilities and performance. Testing & Optimization: • Develop and execute unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure software reliability and security. • Identify and implement optimizations to improve application efficiency and user experience. • Debug and troubleshoot software issues to minimize disruptions and enhance performance. Troubleshooting & Support: • Diagnose and resolve software issues, ensuring minimal impact on operations. • Provide technical support for application performance, database interactions, and system integrations. • Document software issues, resolutions, and preventative measures to improve future troubleshooting. Project Management & Collaboration: • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to define and implement software requirements. • Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives. • Work with stakeholders to prioritize software enhancements and ensure alignment with program goals. Documentation & Compliance: • Create and maintain detailed software documentation, including technical specifications, architecture diagrams, and user manuals. • Ensure compliance with software development standards, security protocols, and regulatory requirements. • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation. Qualifications: • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; or combination of education and experience. • Experience: 5+ years software engineering experience with at strong focus on database design and administration • Clearance: Active Secret • Required Skills: • Database Administration • Database programming experience and data management • Database Patch/Lifecycle Management • Hands-on experience with database testing, performance tuning, and backup/recovery protocols • Disaster Recovery and High Availability Knowledge • Strong understanding of data security, user access controls, and compliance practices • Oracle Database and Products Knowledge • Postgress Database and Products Knowledge • Linux Database Installation and Management Knowledge • Knowledge with relation to database design/coding • Experience with Object-Relation Mapping (ORM) and Data Access Object/Layers (DAL) • Must be able to install/configure the Oracle Database on Unix • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, Java, C/C++, C#, bash scripting). • Strong knowledge of software design, development, and architecture. • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and software development tools. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop and optimize complex software solutions. • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams. • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. • Preferred Skills: • Hands on experience with containerized environments (Docker/Podman, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible) • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines. • Knowledge of database management systems (SQL and NoSQL). • Experience with front-end and back-end development frameworks. • Certifications in software engineering or relevant technologies are a plus. Work Environment: Ability to work at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods. Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, typically working 40 hours per week.
