The Data Protection Security Investigations Analyst 2 works with EIP stakeholders and Humana’s teams to identify high risk insider activity and ensure appropriate controls are in place to mitigate potential data loss or malicious activity. Understands department, segment, and organizational strategy and operating objectives, including their linkages to related areas. Makes decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations, and requires minimal direction and receives guidance where needed. Follows established guidelines/procedures.

The Data Protection Investigations Analyst (P2) supports enterprise Data Protection Operations through level two alert triage, investigation support, evidence review, and stakeholder coordination. The analyst evaluates alerts, logs, user activity, system indicators, and related evidence to identify potential data exposure, unauthorized movement, policy violations, and insider risk.

The analyst partners with Enterprise Information Protection, Humana Resources, Legal, Privacy, Compliance, and business teams on investigations, security reviews, control questions, and evidence requests. The role strengthens Data Protection Operations through accurate case documentation, disciplined queue management, evidence organization, process improvement, and consistent execution.

A key focus is providing enterprise-aligned support to subsidiaries and affiliated businesses while maintaining consistent investigation, evidence-handling, documentation, escalation, privacy, and compliance standards.

Use your skills to make an impact

DLP Alert Analysis and Data Protection Operations
  • Analyze DLP alerts and controls across email, endpoint, web, cloud/CASB, collaboration, and data classification platforms to validate policy behavior, assess business context, and recommend actions.
  • Explain DLP, data classification, and information protection controls to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Serve as a centralized point of intake for Data Protection inquiries, control questions, investigation requests, exceptions, and incident or problem tickets; triage and coordinate each request through resolution or appropriate escalation.
Insider Risk and Data Exposure Support
  • Investigate indicators such as unusual data access, bulk downloads, unauthorized sharing, unapproved storage, or attempts to bypass controls.
  • Assess events using user activity, data sensitivity, destination, control action, business context, and historical patterns.
  • Coordinate additional review or escalation within Threat Management & Response, Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Human Resources, and business stakeholders.
  • Maintain objective, evidence-based documentation that supports consistent, defensible decisions.
Incident Coordination, Escalation, and Stakeholder Support
  • Coordinate response and escalation when an investigation identifies elevated risk, a potential incident, or the need for specialized review.
  • Partner with Threat Management & Response, Legal, Privacy, Compliance, Human Resources, and business teams to resolve investigations and reduce data-loss risk.
  • Respond to inquiries about DLP alerts, data classification, control behavior, approved exception handling, security reviews, and operational processes.
  • Communicate findings, limitations, and recommended next steps clearly to technical and business audiences.
Documentation, Metrics, and Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain accurate case notes, investigation summaries, standard operating procedures, runbooks, knowledge articles, and triage materials.
  • Compile operational data on alert and investigation volume, service-level performance, queue aging, case quality, exception reviews, subsidiary support, compliance evidence, and control effectiveness.
  • Identify recurring control issues and opportunities to improve triage consistency, service-level performance, evidence handling, automation, and repeatable workflows across enterprise operations.
  • Meet established service levels, maintain complete and accurate case records, reduce avoidable queue aging, and escalate blockers or emerging risk promptly.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Two or more years of relevant technical experience, including at least one year in Data Security, Cyber Data Protection, DLP, security operations, insider risk, incident response support, or a related field.
  • Experience triaging security alerts, reviewing logs, collecting evidence, documenting findings, and supporting investigations or incident response.
  • Working knowledge of DLP, data classification, information protection, security monitoring, data handling, and common exposure scenarios.
  • Ability to analyze routine to moderately complex issues, follow established procedures, and make sound, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Experience supporting centralized intake, ticket handling, case management, or operational queues with consistent prioritization and follow-up.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for explaining Data Security controls to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Commitment to accurate documentation and continuous improvement of scalable, efficient workflows.
  • Ability to responsibly use approved AI-enabled tools to improve investigation efficiency, documentation quality, process consistency, and decision support while protecting sensitive information and complying with security, privacy, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with one or more enterprise Data Protection technology categories, such as DLP, data classification, CASB, SIEM, endpoint security, email security, or data-security posture management.
  • Hands-on experience with representative platforms such as Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps, Zscaler, CrowdStrike, Proofpoint, Symantec, Splunk, Google Security Operations, Microsoft Sentinel, Cyera, Netskope, or comparable tools.

  • Security-related certification such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, GSEC, or a relevant vendor certification, or progress toward certification; advanced certifications such as CISSP or CISM are beneficial.
  • Experience supporting investigations involving insider risk, data exfiltration, cloud application use, web activity, unauthorized sharing, or inappropriate data movement.
  • Experience reviewing security documentation, cloud service requests, data risk information, vendor or SaaS intake, or security control exceptions.
Operating Expectations
  • Handles sensitive and regulated information in accordance with established security, privacy, legal, records-management, and evidence-handling requirements.
  • Participates in scheduled or after-hours support, escalation, travel, and workplace arrangements when required by the position and defined in the final posting.

  • Makes operational recommendations based on evidence, documented control behavior, data sensitivity, risk indicators, and business context.
  • Escalates events that exceed thresholds, present elevated risk, require specialized technical review, or need cross-functional decisions.
  • Maintains a support-oriented approach while balancing control effectiveness, user impact, compliance, privacy, and data protection outcomes.
  • Works independently on routine tasks and seeks guidance on ambiguous, sensitive, high-risk, or precedent-setting matters.
