Full Job Description
Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Data Processing Systems Software Operations Engineer to support our Deep Space Network (DSN) Operations and Maintenance O&M contract with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and NASA in Monrovia, CA.

The Deep Space Network is NASA’s international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never-before-seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it.

The successful candidate will oversee the lifecycle management of software components used in data processing. The candidate may be responsible for multiple assemblies and must understand their capabilities, performance standards, and limitations.

  • Determine test resource requirements and schedule tests to meet project deadlines
  • Identify and categorize Software Anomalies (ARs) and work with the CDE toward resolution
  • Liaise between station personnel and DSN Development and Operations Services Office (DDOSO) for the resolution of operational problems, failures, and discrepancies
  • Monitor, measure, and analyze SPS subsystem functions and performance
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve discrepancies, failures, and problems
  • Provide real-time technical support for critical and high-profile DSN activities and events
  • Analyze discrepancy reports (DRs)
  • Coordinate with Deep Space Communications Complex (DSCC) personnel and JPL Design Engineering to investigate failures and resolve operational problems
  • Maintain technical cognizance of subsystem capabilities, configurations and performance
  • Support System Performance Analysis Reporting
  • Develop operational processes to prevent, avoid, or work around anomalies that could affectthe quantity or quality of data services
  • Provide technical guidance to DSCCs in the form of system-dependent Cognizant OE Advisory/Directives (CAD)
  • Lead the effort to mentor less experienced OEs to support the SPS products and services
