Full Job Description
Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an experienced Data Facilities Management Team Lead that will be responsible for the physical infrastructure, power, cooling, environmental monitoring, and physical security of the Customer's Primary Data Center and Backup Data Center as well as the colocation facilities. The ideal candidate ensures that the physical environment supporting 4,700+ virtual servers and 850+ physical servers maintains the highest levels of availability, efficiency, and compliance with federal data center standards and the customer's physical security requirements. 

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage the Facilities team, providing technical direction, workload prioritization, and performance oversight for all facilities technicians and engineers. 
  • Monitor and manage power infrastructure (UPS systems, PDUs, generators, transfer switches) at both PDC and BDC; ensure N+1 or better redundancy. 
  • Oversee cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers); maintain temperature and humidity within ASHRAE A2 or better standards. 
  • Manage physical security systems (badge access, CCTV, man-traps, visitor management) in coordination with the customer's Physical Security. 
  • Administer environmental monitoring systems (temperature, humidity, water detection, smoke detection); configure alerts and response procedures. 
  • Manage the colocation facilities — coordinate cage access, cross-connects, power circuits, and remote hands services. 
  • Develop and maintain data center capacity plans for space (rack units), power (kW), and cooling (BTU/hr); forecast growth and coordinate procurement. 
  • Coordinate facilities maintenance activities (preventive maintenance, generator load tests, UPS battery replacements) with minimal service impact. 
  • Ensure compliance with the customer's physical security policies, NIST SP 800-53 physical and environmental protection (PE) controls. 
  • Manage facilities vendor relationships (power, cooling, physical security OEMs); coordinate maintenance contracts and emergency response. 
  • Produce weekly/monthly facilities health reports, PUE metrics, and capacity utilization dashboards. 
  • Support DR exercises by ensuring BDC facilities are ready to assume production workloads within defined RTO objectives. 

Location; Will work onsite at the customer's Primary Data Center in Northern Virgina with periodic travel to secondary site.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years management experience
  • Minimum 8 years of data center facilities management experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in an IT outsourcing or managed-services environment.
  • ITIL v3 Foundation certified 
  • Technical: Hands-on expertise with data center power (UPS, PDU, generator), cooling (CRAC/CRAH, chiller), and environmental monitoring systems. 
  • Physical Security: Experience managing badge access control, CCTV, and physical security systems in a federal or high-security environment. 
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 Physical and Environmental Protection (PE) control family. 
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience implementing automation tools, scripts, or platforms to streamline IT operations workflows. 
  • Demonstrated experience deploying or integrating AI/ML-based monitoring, analytics, or decision-support tools in an enterprise environment. 
  • Proven ability to identify manual, repetitive processes and engineer automated replacements using tools such as Schneider EcoStruxure, Vertiv Environet, Nlyte DCIM, IoT sensor platforms, BMS APIs, Python automation, and ServiceNow integration. 
  • Experience integrating disparate IT management platforms (e.g., ServiceNow, monitoring tools, CMDB, ticketing systems) to create unified, automated workflows. 
  • Track record of measurable operational improvements (reduced MTTR, increased automation rate, reduced manual effort) resulting from automation initiatives. 
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • ITIL 4 Foundation certification
  • Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) or equivalent data center design certification. 
  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) or equivalent. 
  • Experience with DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) platforms (Nlyte, Sunbird, Schneider EcoStruxure). 
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE TC 9.9 thermal guidelines and data center energy efficiency standards. 
  • Experience with Equinix or other colocation provider management. 
  • Prior federal government data center experience (FISMA, NIST SP 800-53 PE controls). 
  • Knowledge of federal data center optimization requirements (OMB M-19-19, DCOI). 
Target Salary Range$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
