Full Job Description
Are you passionate about launching your career in data engineering, transforming raw data into reliable pipelines, and learning from seasoned cloud professionals? Do you want to build hands-on expertise in enterprise cloud environments and play an active role in a strategic modernization toward Microsoft Fabric? Join our innovative Data & Analytics team as an Associate Data Engineer, where you will help maintain, optimize, and scale our cloud data infrastructure on-site at our Camden, NJ headquarters.

You will work closely with senior engineers to ensure our enterprise data platforms are robust, reliable, and operating efficiently. This is a premier opportunity to gain deep, hands-on experience with enterprise-level cloud data tools (such as Azure Synapse and Azure Pipeline) and play a vital role in our upcoming platform modernization.

Our Engineering Philosophy

We embrace modern development tools and encourage the structured use of AI companions (like GitHub Copilot or Google Gemini) to speed up workflows. However, we believe that foundational depth is essential for growth. As an Associate Data Engineer, you will be expected and mentored to understand the "why" behind the code-learning how to question, validate, and verify AI-assisted solutions before they are integrated into production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Maintenance & Optimization: Assist in managing, monitoring, and optimizing existing ETL/ELT data pipelines built on Azure Pipeline and Azure Synapse to ensure consistent, accurate, and timely data delivery.
  • Data Reliability & Support: Monitor active data workflows, identify data quality or performance anomalies, and work proactively to troubleshoot, debug, and resolve execution failures.
  • Modernization Assistance: Support the refactoring of legacy SQL structures into modern PySpark notebook architectures as the platform prepares for its Microsoft Fabric transition.
  • Technical Documentation: Author and maintain clear, up-to-date technical documentation covering pipeline architectures, data schemas, operations guides, and cataloging.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with senior engineers, database administrators, and business stakeholders to translate technical requirements into stable, operational data flows.
  • Continuous Learning: Actively develop personal technical skills under mentorship, focusing on mastering NFI's data assets, frameworks, and modern lakehouse design patterns.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience/intensive bootcamp completion).
  • SQL Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of SQL for querying, data manipulation, and analyzing complex datasets.
  • Programming Skills: Solid foundational knowledge of Python, with experience writing basic PySpark scripts for data manipulation.
  • Cloud Exposure: Hands-on experience or academic/project exposure to Azure Cloud Services, specifically Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Pipeline orchestrations.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with a natural curiosity for diagnosing, debugging, and fixing data discrepancies.

We are excited to share that the base salary range for this position is $88,067.46- $117,423.28. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, targeted at 3%. NFI takes into consideration applicants' qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location when determining a starting rate of pay.

Employees are also eligible for a robust benefit program, which includes Medical, Dental, Vision, Prescription Drug Coverage, 401k Plan, Wellness Program, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Paid Parental Leave, among other benefit plan options.
