Position Overview: Citi is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to drive large-scale ETL architecture, data migration, and engineering delivery across enterprise data platforms. In this senior role, you will serve as the technical authority for Ab Initio-based data solutions, shaping architectural direction and leading complex delivery programs within a global financial services environment. Your expertise will directly influence the quality, performance, and scalability of data systems that underpin critical business and regulatory functions at Citi.
Responsibilities- Architect and deliver end-to-end Ab Initio ETL solutions spanning development through production, ensuring performance, scalability, and alignment with enterprise data standards.
- Lead technical assessments of ETL applications processing high volumes of data, identifying and resolving critical performance bottlenecks to maintain business continuity.
- Design and build reusable, parameter-driven Ab Initio frameworks capable of integrating with any source or target system - including databases, flat files, and spreadsheets - to accelerate delivery across projects.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to translate regulatory reporting requirements into robust ETL designs that meet strict SLA and data quality obligations.
- Own the Ab Initio infrastructure assessment and procurement process in collaboration with Citi's infrastructure teams, from environment design through to production readiness.
- Perform data architecture analysis and gap resolution between legacy and strategic platforms, supporting large-scale migration programs across the organization.
- Mentor and coach mid-level engineers and analysts, setting delivery standards for coding, testing, and implementation across the team.
- Act as the primary point of contact for Ab Initio vendor engagement, managing product-related issues, escalations, and technical discussions on behalf of the portfolio.
Required Qualifications & Skills- 6 or more years of hands-on experience in Ab Initio ETL, spanning architectural design, delivery planning, requirements analysis, development, and performance tuning across complex data environments.
- Deep expertise across the Ab Initio toolset, including Batch Processing, PDL, Express>It, Conduct>It, Control>Center, Ab Initio Plan, Enterprise Meta>Environment (EME), and Ab Initio Framework.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple large-scale ETL and data migration programs concurrently, with accountability for architecture and delivery outcomes.
- Extensive experience in data architecture, including relational and dimensional modelling, legacy-to-strategic platform migration, and enterprise data warehousing across sectors such as banking, telecoms, utilities, and healthcare.
- Proven capability in data profiling and quality analysis, with practical experience designing solutions that resolve data quality issues across heterogeneous source systems.
- Solid command of Oracle SQL and UNIX shell scripting, applied to ETL design and operational data processing tasks.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience at a comparable level.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications- Snowflake SnowPro Core Certification or equivalent working knowledge of Snowflake cloud data platform.
- Experience with data quality tooling such as Informatica Data Quality or Trillium, applied to profiling, standardization, and name and address cleansing processes.
- Familiarity with IBM InfoSphere DataStage and its application within enterprise ETL delivery programs.
- Hands-on exposure to Siebel CRM data migration using SIEBEL EIM processes in conjunction with Ab Initio.
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
