Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Data Analyst:
Performs activities to include research, comprehensive data collection, evaluation, analysis and presentation of Higher Education Data for display in data visualizations and dashboards. This position assists in the development and interpretation of the "CHEMIS" data cubes. The position works in the Office of Information Technology and Data Analysis reporting to the Assistant Director providing assistance in analysis and reporting of data.
Under limited supervision, performs data activities that are needed to ensure that all CHEMIS data sets are accurate and up to date. Working in a collaborative environment with the entire agency in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting data for internal users, processes, and website visualizations. As well as preparing, developing, and publishing internal and external reports and surveys using data tables. Knowledge of planning, statistical methods, research techniques and management; the compilation, analysis and presentation of statistical/research data, management, organizational, and administrative methods/techniques, socioeconomic factors pertaining to state/regional development and assistance programs; administrative policies & procedures, including agency objectives and management goals; and state/federal laws and regulations relating to assigned program areas.
  • Perform research and analysis for presentation and reports related to Higher Education Data. Works with the Assistant Director of Information Technology and Data Analysis to ensure the integrity of the CHEMIS data system. Assist in the collection, analysis and research of "Data" from Institution of Higher Education. Ensure data is accurate and display in the manner in which is requested. Assist and troubleshoot and re-mediate any issues with the Institutional displayed in Power BI.
  • Performs the compilation, analysis, presentation of statistical & research data for higher education institutions in South Carolina with the Commission on Higher Educations Management Information System (CHEMIS). Includes working with and understanding data needed to complete data request. This requires the ability to work and research independently and ask questions from stakeholders.
  • Formats data in coordination with members of the Office of Data Management & IT staff for complex reporting and presentations. Assist and serve as team lead for internal and external data reports to include, the Admission Study, Program Productivity, Dual Enrollment and the Statistical Abstract.
  • Create Power BI reports for research and data requests using CHEMIS to meet federal and state reporting requirements. Format tables and reports using Power BI. Review and analyze reports and trends in Higher Education for comparative analysis. Regularly update and optimize data dashboards to ensure relevance of the business goals.
  • Assist in the maintenance and updates to the CHEMIS data system. Respond to data requests from CHE's internal staff and external stakeholders. Designs complex research and/or statistical studies and projects to include the collection, analysis and presentation of data. Analyzes and interprets data trends in Higher Education.
  • Work with data from various sources, cleaning and interpreting the data to make it usable. Extract data from databases, spreadsheets, and external sources. Prepare tables and data visualization for use in presentations and provide analysis for reports to respond to requests from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and develops procedures for data reporting and visualizations. Prepare charts, tables or other graphic presentations. Assists in writing programs to support building complex data reports. Investigate data problems and remediation issues.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and professional experience as a planner, researcher or statistician. A master's degree in statistics or a related discipline may be substituted for the required work experience. Work experience with Power BI and SQL Server, A bachelor's degree with courses may be substituted for the required work experience. Knowledge of computer and computer applications. Knowledge of compilation, analysis and presentation of statistical and research data.
Additional Requirements:
  • Position may require overnight travel.
  • Position may require the employee to work evenings and weekends.
