Entity: Penn Medicine Doylestown Health Department: OR Location: 595 West State Street, Doylestown Pa 18901 Hours: Full Time Job Summary: To coordinate, develop and facilitate orientation and continuing education for all Surgical Services Associates in conjunction with providing OR nursing services. To provide professional nursing care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, to collaborate with the physician's medical plan, and to execute the objectives and the policies of the hospital. To assist the identified surgical specialty service.
Accountabilities:
• • 1. Coordinates, develops and facilitates orientation, competencies and continuing education for Surgical Services Associates.
• • In coordination with the Director of Surgical Services, Manager and leads, identifies clinical competencies for staff and assesses competency on a regular basis.
• • Ensures that all competencies are completed for associates and new hires.
• • Facilitates new hire orientation, education and sign off of all required competencies to completion.
• • Facilitates educational/training programs to assure compliance with all hospital, department, regulatory standards and the Nursing Practice Act.
• • Maintains record keeping of all Associates competencies and training.
• • Utilizes analytical skill to creatively develop and revise orientation and education programs for the department.
• • Utilizes effective interpersonal skills with all customers, including interaction with Associates, physicians, families and patients.
• • Displays effective communication to Associates and Management both in verbal and written format.
• • Facilitates and coordinates hosting of educational/training programs from outside vendors.
• • Manages time efficiently and effectively in planning educational activities
• 2. Demonstrates clinical proficiency and maintains knowledge base of hospital departmental and regulatory policies in order to serve as a clinical resource and mentor to the Surgical Service Associates (OR, SDS, PAT, PACU and anesthesia techs).
• • Possesses knowledge of and is able to interpret, support and enforce
• organizational policies
• • Completes required annual hospital and departmental education and
• competencies.
• • Functions as a resource person and mentor to all surgical services Associates
• • Stays abreast of new techniques/ procedures/equipment/policies that impact
• Surgical Services
• 3. Actively participates in and supports departmental and organizational quality Initiatives and goals.
• • Attends and participates in meetings according to department standards
• • Supports and participates in department, hospital, and evidence-based care quality initiatives.
• • Participates as a team member on department, hospital workgroups or committees
• • Initiates multidisciplinary meetings and discussions in order to promote quality care
• • Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Surgical Services
• 4. Provides nursing care in a manner that promotes quality and patient safety
• • Provides nursing duties as outlined in the SDS nurse job description (job code 1105)

• • Assists associates in managing workflow
• • Remains flexible with schedule to ensure proper staffing coverage and completion of tasks.
• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

• 5. Provides nursing care in a manner that promotes quality and patient
safety
• Provides nursing duties as outlined in the OR nurse job description (job code 1105)
• Prioritizes work during busy and emergent situations
• Assists associates in managing work flow and fostering a sense of team
• Remains flexible with schedule to ensure proper staffing coverage and completion of tasks.
• Competent to scrub and circulate various cases not just specialty.
• Accepts other duties as assigned
• 6. Actively participates in and supports departmental and organizational quality initiatives and goals.
a. Attends and participates in meetings according to department standards.
b. Participates as a team member or in workgroups on department, hospital and/or evidence-based care quality initiatives.
c. Assist surgical service leadership with ensuring quality and compliance.
d. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and contributes to budget process.
e. Participates in the capital budgeting process for specialty area
• 7. Responsible for overseeing the daily work performed by the associates in the identifed specialty
a. Utilizes effective leadership skills to direct others.
b. Serves as a mentor to Associates
c. Assist the Surgical Service educator with onboarding and training of new associates and ongoing competency of Associates
d. Communicates with Associates and surgeons' issues related to specialty area.
e. Services as a resource to surgeons and staff for equipment and procedures
• 8. Maintains efficient operation of the identified specialty section.
a. Coordinates with vendors and Materials Management associates:
• The utilization/delivery of specialty equipment
• Repairs and replacements of specialty equipment
• Backorders
• Product trials
• Ordering stocked items to maintain par levels
b. Develops and updates preference cards as needed
c. Works with Business analyst to ensure that charges and procedure codes are up to date for sup

Qualifications:- BSN Required
- RN, Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years experience Cardiac Rehab, Cardiac Care or Emergency Services
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications:- BLS required
- Current licensure in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of State Bureau of Occupational and Professional Affairs
