Overview (Scope of Role)

The Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist ensures compliant, efficient, and uninterrupted international trade operations across the Americas. The role oversees customs compliance processes, maintains regulatory certifications, and serves as the primary interface with customs authorities, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other trade partners. By providing regional expertise, governance, and oversight, the position minimizes regulatory and operational risk, supports business continuity, and helps protect the company's license to operate in global markets.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customs and trade compliance across the Americas region.
  • Manage import/export compliance and customs clearance activities.
  • Oversee tariff classification, valuation, origin determination, and trade agreement compliance.
  • Maintain regulatory certifications, authorizations, and compliance records.
  • Serve as the key liaison with customs authorities, brokers, and trade service providers.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary business controls.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to support compliant and efficient cross-border trade.
  • Drive compliance, process improvement, risk mitigation, and operational excellence initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Customs & Trade Compliance, import/export operations, or customs brokerage.
  • Working knowledge of customs regulations, trade compliance requirements, and duty management programs.
  • Experience with tariff classification, customs valuation, country of origin, and free trade agreements.
  • Experience managing relationships with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government authorities.
  • Familiarity with SAP GTS or other trade compliance systems preferred.
  • Professional trade or customs certification preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across functions and influence stakeholders.
