MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:- At least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
- U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
- Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
- No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Criminal Justice, Statistical Analysis, or closely related field AND five (5) years related experience in crime analysis, investigative, and/or intelligence analysis OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. The following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:
- Two (2) years of direct experience for an Associate Degree
- Four (4) years of direct experience for a Bachelor's Degree
- Must have successfully completed the following: ANACAPA Training Course, Crime Analysis Applications Training Course, and State Certification of Crime Analysts or be able to complete all within two (2) years of employment.
- Must be able to be FCIC/NCIC certified within one (1) year of employment.
- Must maintain certifications listed above once achieved.
- Manages and monitors employee performance for crime and investigative analysts. Analyzes, resolves, or assists subordinates in resolving work problems as needed. Identifies section needs and allocates resources accordingly to provide crime analysis services.
- Assists the Information Technology (IT) Solutions Delivery Unit (SDU) with assessing and adopting emerging technologies/software related to crime analysis and patrol. Serves as a coordinator/administrator and agency contact for a variety of police, tracking, analytical, and intelligence database systems. Oversees the identification, development, and design of program modifications to include working with IT staff to produce formatted reports for specialized units.
- Presents recommendations regarding new crime analysis technology and software to senior staff.
- Oversees the implementation, collection and analysis of crime data from a variety of economic, geographic, and social information; utilizes sources from calls for service, census, demographic, and other related data to display informational analyses to police administrators and officials.
- Oversees the creation of agency crime analysis data presentations. Reviews and presents current crime trends, patterns, and issues in briefings and meetings with various groups. Prepares and assists UPD Sector Captains with criminal activity presentations at staff, Neighborhood Community, and Board of County Commissioners' meetings.
- Liaises with other police agencies, fusion centers, and organizations concerning criminal intelligence. Reads, catalogs, shares, and appropriately disseminates information related to crime trends and patterns.
- Trains/coaches/mentors new staff and other agency personnel. Coordinates training for agency analytical component, and trains sworn personnel on crime analysis tools.
- Meets with agency-wide personnel to determine agency data needs and to enhance the agency's effectiveness to combat crime.
- Monitors the agency's Reporting Districts' Calls for Service for recurring crime trends and patterns.
- Coordinates and maintains agency Intern Program and Contract Agreement with the University of Central Florida.

- Must also have working knowledge of offense codes, geographic information system mapping, and geological profiling.

- Must have advanced computer skills and the ability to learn and utilize specialized applications to include word processing and presentation applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint) and advanced spreadsheet, database, and mapping applications (e.g., Excel, Arc GIS).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Directly manages employees in the Crime Analysis Unit.
- Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees (and coordinating training for employees); planning, assigning, scheduling, and directing work; appraising and evaluating performance; counseling, coaching, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; reviewing, completing, and approving time sheets, time off requests, and payroll.
