CRANE & RIGGING SUPERINTENDENT

Lead the Lifts Others Can't

We are seeking an experienced Crane & Rigging Superintendent to serve as the senior field leader for our crane, rigging, heavy-lift, and industrial project operations. This position is responsible for turning lift plans and project requirements into safe, efficient daily execution.

The Superintendent will direct field crews and foremen, lead jobsite safety, coordinate with project management, engineering, safety, and dispatch, and ensure projects remain properly staffed, equipped, documented, and on schedule.

Candidates who have progressed through crane operation, rigging, lift-director, foreman, or other field-leadership roles are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily crane and rigging operations at industrial, petrochemical, infrastructure, and construction sites.
  • Direct foremen, crane operators, riggers, signalpersons, drivers, and supporting field personnel.
  • Take ownership of jobsite safety and compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, including 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC, ASME B30 standards, company policies, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Lead pre-lift meetings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, pre-task planning, and shift handoffs.
  • Serve as the designated Lift Director for critical, engineered, and complex lifting operations when assigned.
  • Review and verify lift plans, engineered drawings, rigging configurations, load information, crane capacities, load charts, communication methods, and site conditions before work begins.
  • Coordinate crane setup, assembly and disassembly, mats, cribbing, crane pads, access routes, barricades, and ground-condition readiness.
  • Confirm that operators, riggers, signalpersons, drivers, and other assigned personnel possess the required qualifications, certifications, training, and site access credentials.
  • Review project scopes, customer requirements, job packages, JHAs, pre-task plans, schedules, equipment needs, and staffing requirements.
  • Develop and maintain short-interval and look-ahead schedules for crews, cranes, rigging equipment, transport support, and other project resources.
  • Monitor productivity, equipment utilization, project progress, and field conditions, adjusting work plans and resources as necessary.
  • Partner with Project Managers, client representatives, Safety, Engineering, Dispatch, Transportation, and other internal teams to keep work safe, efficient, and on schedule.
  • Communicate project progress, delays, changes, safety concerns, risks, equipment needs, staffing needs, and customer issues in a timely manner.
  • Coach, develop, and hold field employees accountable for safe work practices, attendance, communication, workmanship, productivity, and professional conduct.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports, inspection records, equipment-utilization records, employee qualification records, incident documentation, and project closeout materials.
  • Exercise stop-work authority whenever conditions are unsafe or work cannot be performed in accordance with the approved plan.
  • Coordinate with Safety on inspections, corrective actions, incident response, lessons learned, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Represent Bengal professionally when interacting with customers, contractors, employees, vendors, and project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • At least seven years of crane, rigging, heavy-lift, heavy-haul, or heavy-industrial field experience.
  • At least three years of experience leading crews, foremen, or multi-craft field teams in a Superintendent, Senior Foreman, Lift Director, General Foreman, or comparable role.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • OSHA crane and rigging requirements, including 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC
    • ASME B30 standards
    • Lift planning and critical-lift procedures
    • Crane load charts and operating limitations
    • Rigging hardware, inspection requirements, and configurations
    • Signaling and communication procedures
    • Jobsite hazard identification and control
  • Ability to read and interpret lift plans, crane manuals, load charts, engineered drawings, job packages, and customer safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated record of safe field leadership, crew accountability, and successful project execution.
  • Strong leadership, organization, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to meet applicable company and customer driving requirements, including maintaining required personal vehicle insurance when operating a light truck for company business.
  • Current TWIC card or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to pass all required pre-employment and customer-mandated screenings, which may include a drug screen, DISA background requirements, physical-capability testing, and PPE testing.
  • Ability and willingness to work early starts, extended shifts, nights, weekends, and schedules of up to seven days per week as project demands require.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites throughout South Louisiana and the Gulf South.
Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are not required but will distinguish highly qualified candidates:
  • NCCCO certification as a Lift Director, Crane Operator, Rigger Level II, or Signalperson.
  • NCCER crane, rigging, signaling, or supervisory certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification or comparable advanced safety training.
  • Current TWIC card and established refinery or petrochemical site-access credentials.
  • Experience with crawler, all-terrain, rough-terrain, hydraulic truck, and boom-truck cranes.
  • Experience with critical lifts, engineered lifts, multi-crane lifts, crane assembly and disassembly, engineered rigging, and specialty heavy-haul transport.
  • Turnaround, outage, shutdown, maintenance, or capital-project experience.
  • Experience working in refineries, petrochemical plants, industrial facilities, and other complex operating environments.
  • Class A CDL or experience coordinating CDL-regulated heavy-haul and specialized transportation operations.
  • Familiarity with lift-planning, crane-operations, or document-management software such as AutoCAD, LICCON, ATOM, and PDF editing tools.
  • Experience coordinating crane mats, ground-bearing requirements, transport logistics, permits, access planning, and project mobilization.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This is an office- and field-based position headquartered in the Gonzales/Geismar area, with assignments at Bengal facilities and customer or project sites throughout South Louisiana and the Gulf South.

Work hours and schedules vary according to project requirements and may include early starts, extended shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel.

Essential functions of the position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation, may include:
  • Frequently walking, standing, climbing, bending, and moving throughout active industrial jobsites.
  • Working at elevated locations and accessing cranes, equipment, trailers, platforms, stairs, and ladders.
