Position InformationThis Court Operations Supervisor opportunity is designated to serve the Court from the on-site Operations Department, located at 1000 Main Street, Woodland, CA 95695. Court hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.POSITION SUMMARYUnder direction of the Court Executive Officer, Assistant Court Executive Officer, and/or Operations Manager supervise an operational unit of the Court and perform other related duties as required. This position is "at-will" and FLSA non-exempt.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThe Court Operations Supervisor serves as a first line supervisor on a daily basis over a recognized operational division or divisions of the Court (Civil, Criminal, Traffic or Collections) and advises the Court Executive Officer, Assistant Court Executive Officer, and/or Operations Manager on staffing, personnel and unit needs and concerns.
Essential Duties include but are not necessarily limited to: - Plan, assign, supervise, coordinate, review and evaluate the work of legal process and/or collections staff
- Ensure adequate coverage for the legal process and/or collection unit
- Train staff in legal terminology, procedures and document processing; review work in progress and upon completion
- Authorize employee leaves and absences
- Participate in the selection of staff; appraise employee performance; conduct counseling on work issues; recommend and administer discipline to staff as required
- Develop procedures, forms and work standards for staff; ensure that work is performed in a consistent manner and maintain the flow and quality of work within the unit
- Monitor changes in laws, policies and procedures that impact work; recommend procedural improvements and implement them after approval; assist in communicating procedures to staff
- May interpret legal codes to determine proper filing procedures
- Determine notice requirements, including the type of notice and the parties of notice
- Confer with the Court Executive Officer, Assistant Court Executive Officer, Court Operations Manager, and other supervisors and managers on policies, and procedures and makes recommendations on their revision
- Answer complex and difficult legal or procedural questions related to document processing; advise attorneys, public agencies and the general public regarding the status of cases and procedural information; apply Court policy to resolve issues
- Answer staff questions on the application of pertinent codes as they relate to their duties
- Answer the questions of others as they relate to changes in the law governing operations of the court
- Hear and resolve employee concerns and issues
- Prepare and maintain statistical and narrative reports related to activity and work of the unit.
- Perform unit work when needed due to employee absences and/or emergency
- Maintain/check on office supplies and inventory and prepare requisitions as required
- Prepare and maintain personnel and payroll records
- Serve as court representative with law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and county departments
- Perform related work as required
Employment StandardsEducation:High school diploma or equivalent. Related education beyond the high school level may be substituted for up to 1 year of experience.
Experience: Five (5) years of legal clerical experience, which includes at least one (1) year performing legal processing, courtroom support, or other similar work in a court setting.
In addition, the candidate must have at least two (2) years of experience in a lead or advanced role.

Lifting of objects weighing in excess of 25 pounds will require team lifting. The noise and traffic level in the work environment are similar to a busy business office.
Normal business hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Overtime may occasionally be required.

Vacation Leave: New employees earn up to 80 hours of vacation leave in their first year of employment. The vacation accrual increases up to 120 hours beginning at 2 years. Vacation accrual rates increase with years of service. The vacation cap is 320 hours.
Sick Leave: Up to 96 hours per year (8 hours per month). There is no cap on sick leave accrual. Unused sick leave may be converted to CalPERS service credit upon retirement.
