Job Description:

The Bell County Attorney's Office currently has an opening for an Assistant County Attorney position. The position includes all aspects of Prosecutor work. Bell County provides paid vacation, employee benefits, including health, dental, life, and optional vision insurance, along with participation in the Texas District and County Retirement program, membership dues to TDCAA, the State and local bar dues, as well as costs associated with CLE are covered by the County Attorneys office.


Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.


  • Provides legal counsel and representation to all County departments in civil litigation, administrative proceedings, etc.
  • Attends and presents at Boards and County Commissioners Court meetings and renders legal advice.
  • Provides legal training to clients in County departments.
  • Renders routine legal advice daily to all officers, departments and agencies of the County.
  • Prepares cases for trial, interviews witnesses, and examines law and evidence.
  • Represents the County in trial and appellate litigation and handles complex issues of law as necessary.
  • Drafts and reviews ordinances, resolutions, proposed legislation, contracts, deeds, leases, releases, franchises, and other legal documents.
  • Conducts legal research and prepares legal documents.
  • Ensures that information related to cases is disseminated appropriately and stored appropriately.
  • Advises and/or supervises paralegals and clerical/administrative personnel.
  • Conducts title searches, certifies titles, and handles closings.
  • Prepares formal legal opinions for the signature of the County Attorney.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Requires a Juris Doctorate.

Physical Demands:


  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Proposed Compensation:


  • Step 1-7 Annual Salary: $86,093.00 to $96,954.00

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Requires a license to practice law in the State of Texas.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas (or graduation from an accredited law school awaiting State Bar of Texas Results)
  • Must consent to and pass a criminal background check.
  • Recent law school graduates, awaiting either the bar exam results or to take the bar, will also be considered.
