Full Job Description
About the Role

Stand Together seeks a highly motivated and entrepreneurial attorney to join its in-house legal team as Counsel, Edupreneur Resource Center.

This role combines development of scalable legal resources and direct engagement with entrepreneurs, with an emphasis on resource creation. In this role, you will empower education entrepreneurs by translating complex legal and regulatory frameworks into clear, practical, and actionable guidance for non-lawyers. You will develop scalable resources and provide individualized support that enables founders to confidently navigate compliance challenges.

Candidates available to work in-person in Arlington, VA, preferred; remote candidates considered on a case-by-case basis

Why This Role Matters

This role sits at the intersection of law, innovation, and social impact. You will help remove legal and regulatory barriers that limit the growth of new and diverse education models, directly contributing to the ability of education entrepreneurs to operate free from regulatory overreach and the freedom for students and families to access the right educational option for them.

Important Note: The ERC does not provide legal representation or form attorney-client relationships. Instead, it delivers general legal information and practical guidance to help entrepreneurs make informed decisions and advocate for themselves.

How You Will Contribute

  • Develop Scalable Resources: You will create high-quality, user-friendly legal content, including guides, templates, FAQs, and toolkits. You will design and deliver educational programming such as webinars, trainings, and online courses. You will continuously refine materials based on user needs, changes in law, and emerging legal developments.
  • Provide Practical Legal Guidance: You will engage directly with ERC customers (entrepreneurs) to help them understand applicable legal and regulatory requirements across jurisdictions. You will conduct legal research and synthesize findings into clear, risk-informed guidance for non-lawyers. You will identify common legal pathways and practical considerations for navigating regulatory barriers.
  • Support Strategic Litigation & Policy Efforts: Occasionally, you will collaborate with internal and external partners on litigation and policy initiatives that expand educational entrepreneurship. You will contribute legal research, issue spotting, and analysis to advance these efforts.
  • Act as a Strategic Thought Partner: You will help shape the ERC's strategy, priorities, and offerings based on strategic goals, legal trends, and customer needs. You will identify systemic barriers facing education entrepreneurs and recommend scalable solutions.
  • Collaborate and Innovate: You will partner across the Stand Together legal team to improve processes, tools, and service delivery. You will bring forward creative approaches to balancing legal risk with mission-driven impact.

What You Will Bring

  • J.D. and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 2+ years of legal practice experience with a law firm or in-house counsel team
  • Strong foundation in small business, regulatory, or general corporate law
  • Desire to work across multiple subject matter areas and quickly develop knowledge
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance that is easily understandable by non-lawyers
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • An entrepreneurial spirit that adjusts well to a changing environment
  • High level of judgment, attention to detail, and professional integrity
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.

Standout Candidates May Bring

  • Experience advising startups, small businesses, or mission-driven organizations
  • Litigation experience, including exposure to regulatory or constitutional issues
  • Familiarity with education law, nonprofit law, or multi-state regulatory compliance
  • Experience creating educational content or delivering trainings to non-legal audiences

What Sets You Apart

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort operating in ambiguity
  • Strong problem-solving orientation with a focus on practical outcomes
  • A sincere desire to support mission-driven organizations focused on bottom-up (vs. top-down) solutions, free markets, and limited government
  • Integrity, humility, and a contribution mindset
  • Ability to balance legal risk with innovation and impact
  • Commitment to continuous learning and intellectual curiosity

What We Offer

  • Competitive benefits: Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace.
  • A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,400 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges.
  • Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop and apply their unique talents.
  • Competitive compensation: Our approach rewards the value you create through competitive salaries and bonus opportunities, allowing you to share in the success you help drive.

$125,000 - $150,000 a year

For this role, the anticipated base salary range is $125,000-$150,000 per year. This role may also be eligible for additional bonus compensation designed to align total compensation with an employee's overall contribution to the organization.

Our Principles-Based Management™ (PBM) compensation philosophy is grounded in an individualized approach that rewards the long-term value each person creates for the organization. Compensation decisions are informed by a variety of factors, including relevant experience, capabilities, demonstrated skills, role responsibilities, and expected contribution. Consistent with this approach, base salary may vary within or outside of the anticipated range based on these considerations.
