Your Job

Georgia-Pacific is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to lead and support project estimating across the project lifecycle. This role is responsible for estimate planning, support of estimate development, review, and validation, as well as supporting cost management, forecasting, and analysis.

Typical responsibilities include partnering with preferred engineering and construction firms to develop project cost estimates using proven industry practices; preparing conceptual estimates when design information is limited; developing detailed, bottom-up estimates for project authorization; identifying risks and value-improvement opportunities; assessing estimate quality; and validating estimates against internal and external data. During construction, the Cost Estimator reviews and challenges change orders. After project completion, the role benchmarks actual project costs to improve future estimating.

Estimators are frequently challenged with tight timelines that are changing to meet business needs. The ability to work on multiple projects with speed and self-confidence is a must. Applicants should be self-motivated and have the desire to share knowledge and continually improve the estimating practices and processes of GP.

This role offers the opportunity to influence major capital project decisions, strengthen estimating standards, and build more reliable cost intelligence across Georgia-Pacific's project portfolio.

This is a home-based role that requires up to 25% travel, typically Monday through Thursday/Friday to job sites or select in-person staff meetings.

The ideal candidate would be based in the Southeast, Green bay or Wichita.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the overall estimating process on projects including estimating kickoff and alignment meetings, self-performing conceptual or detailed bottoms up estimates and/or managing partner estimating teams, estimate reviews and cost/quantity validations.
  • Collaborate with project teams and preferred partners, both construction and engineering.
  • Ensure that the estimating structure aligns with the project work breakdown structure.
  • Communicate risks and opportunities for improvement to the reviewers
  • Monitor, analyze, and work with the project team to control and improve project cost outcomes.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Ten or more years of project estimating experience in the industrial, chemical, oil and gas, or related industries.
  • Robust understanding of cost build ups, engineering documents, blueprints and other deliverables that influence estimates.
  • Ability to assess estimating methodologies that impact estimate quality.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.


What Will Put You Ahead
  • Expertise with data management / historical cost tool development.
  • Degree in construction management / building science.
  • Background in construction and/or project management.
  • Expertise in estimating process piping and/or electrical costs.
  • Expertise in the pulp and paper industry.
  • AACEI certification as a Certified Cost Professional (CCP)
  • EcoSys software experience.
  • Qlik software experience.
