Full Job Description

Purpose and Scope:

The Cost Estimator III serves as a seasoned, senior‑level professional responsible for producing comprehensive, discipline‑integrated construction cost estimates that support complex industrial facilities maintenance and infrastructure projects. The role performs advanced quantity take‑offs; evaluates labor, material, equipment, productivity, market conditions, and risk factors; and applies both established and innovative estimating tools and standards to generate highly reliable ROM, budgetary, and task‑level cost data. Operating with minimal guidance, the position interfaces extensively with project stakeholders and customers to validate scope, schedule, and technical requirements. The CE III ensures estimates reflect increased complexity, are thoroughly documented, and contributes to process improvements and team capability.

Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities:

• Perform advanced estimating activities supporting complex industrial operations and infrastructure projects, requiring independent evaluation of diverse, non‑routine scope elements.
• Complete multi‑discipline, highly detailed quantity take‑offs, including specialized systems, demonstrating expert‑level insight into cost drivers.
• Apply seasoned judgment in analyzing labor, material, equipment, productivity, market conditions, escalation, and risk.
• Provide analytical, critical‑thinking, and communication skills to influence decision‑making and identify cost‑effective alternatives.
• Independently manage multiple concurrent estimates with exceptional accuracy and timely execution.
• Demonstrate advanced proficiency in RSMeans and improve estimating tools and methodologies.
• Ensure estimates meet scope, schedule, and budget expectations with increased complexity.
• Develop complete, traceable documentation including assumptions and Basis of Estimate narratives.
• Interface proactively with cross‑functional teams to validate scope and ensure alignment.
• Mentor junior estimators and support team development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience/Certification:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for degree
  • 5+ years of job-related experience.

Preferred Education/Experience/Certification:

  • Experience in HVAC and Fire Protection construction preferred.

Required Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient working knowledge of RS Means or similar Construction Cost Estimating software.  Good communications and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.
  • Working knowledge in MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet schedule deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate through all sections of cost estimating software.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards; occasional lifting to 20 pounds; constant sitting with use of computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents; constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; constant mental alertness; must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines. Field work will consist primarily of site walk downs in support of design projects and system trouble shooting Site hazard training and Personal Protective Equipment are provided.
