Position Overview

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a motivated and skilled candidate to serve as the Corrections Food Service Supervisor III at IYC Pere Marquette. Under the direction of the Food Service Program Manager, the incumbent will serve as a full line supervisor. The incumbent will plan, schedule and publish menus for general and therapeutic diets, and will also direct and monitor staff in training youth in food preparation. Essential Functions

• Under direction, serves as working supervisor to assigned food service program staff at the IL Youth Center, Pere Marquette.
• Provides input into food production by directing and initiating maintenance of proper health, sanitation, and safety standards in preparing, serving, and storing foods.
• Plans, schedules, and publishes menus for general and therapeutic diets.
• Directs and monitors staff in training youth in food preparation.
• Assists the Food Services Program Manager.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
• Requires three (3) years of institution food preparation experience such as could be gained as a Corrections Food Service Supervisor I or II, or supervisory experience in a large-scale food service operation.
• Requires possession of a current Food Service Sanitation Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health or requires possession of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP).

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

• Prefers thorough knowledge of food service sanitation.
• Prefers extensive knowledge of institutional rules and regulations and requirements for the control of offenders or juveniles.
• Prefers extensive knowledge of large-scale food service procedures and practices.
• Prefers extensive knowledge of preparing, serving and acquiring food on a large-scale basis.
• Prefers working knowledge of health and safety requirements to a large-scale food service.
• Prefers ability to control and manage large-scale food service operations with efficiency and economy by example and leadership.
• Prefers ability to interpret the provisions of the Illinois Food Service Sanitation rules and regulations.
• Prefers ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and offenders or juveniles.
• Prefers ability to instruct and supervise subordinates and offenders or juveniles working in all important food service functions.
• Prefers ability to keep food service records, conduct inventories, prepare reports and requisition food and other supplies.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires the ability to pass an Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC)/Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
• Requires completion of an orientation-training course within six (6) months of employment.
