Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead annual financial and compliance audits with external CPA firms.
  • Collaborate with executive team on annual budgeting and planning processes.
  • Monitor budget performance, investigate variances, and report to leadership.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor the accounting and finance team.

Department: Finance & Accounting
Reports To: President/CEO

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Controller to oversee all financial and accounting operations. The ideal candidate will ensure the integrity of our financial data, streamline accounting processes, and implement robust internal controls. As a key member of the leadership team, you will drive accurate reporting and provide actionable financial insights to support company growth.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Manage all accounting operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), payroll, insurance, benefit plans, and the general ledger.
  • Prepare and publish timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends, and present performance metrics to senior management.
  • Participate in Client Prequalifications.
  • Maintain Progress Billings, Insurance Certifications, as required by contracts.

Compliance, Audits & Controls
  • Ensure all financial statements comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Establish, implement, and enforce internal controls and safeguards over company revenue, costs, and assets.
  • Coordinate and lead annual financial and compliance audits with external CPA firms.
  • Manage local, state, and federal tax compliance, ensuring all filings are accurate and submitted on time.

Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Collaborate with the executive team to develop and administer the annual budget and planning processes.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgets, investigate variances, and report deficiencies to leadership.
  • Assist in financial forecasting to project future revenues, expenses, and capital needs.

Team Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise the accounting and finance team.
  • Evaluate current accounting procedures and software to recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and high performance within the finance department.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master's degree is highly preferred.
  • Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 5 to 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or Controller capacity.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in advanced accounting software (e.g., Sage 50, UKG) and advanced Excel.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities, high attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders. Ability to maintain composure under pressure and willingness to collaborate with executive management, and all team members.
  • Commercial Construction industry experience preferred.
