Nexus Health Systems is seeking an experienced Director of Clinical Informatics to lead the organization's clinical technology strategy, optimization, and enterprise electronic medical record (EMR) initiatives.

This executive nursing leadership role serves as the critical bridge between clinical operations and Information Technology, ensuring technology enhances patient care, clinician workflows, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The Director will oversee the enterprise Clinical Informatics function while leading one of the organization's most strategic initiatives-the implementation and expansion of the Meditech Expanse electronic medical record across all Nexus Health Systems facilities.

Position Summary

The Director of Clinical Informatics provides enterprise leadership for all clinical information systems, clinical applications, and informatics-driven workflow optimization across Nexus Health Systems.

This role is responsible for overseeing clinical technology strategy, supporting interdisciplinary clinical teams, optimizing clinical workflows, and leading enterprise EMR implementation efforts. The Director partners closely with executive leadership, physicians, nursing, pharmacy, therapy, revenue cycle, and Corporate IT to ensure technology solutions align with best clinical practices while supporting organizational growth.

The Director reports to the Vice President of IT Operations and, until that role is filled, reports directly to the Chief Information Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Informatics Leadership
  • Lead the enterprise Clinical Informatics program across all Nexus Health Systems facilities.
  • Oversee clinical applications, clinical decision support, workflow optimization, and technology governance.
  • Partner with nursing, physician, pharmacy, therapy, and revenue cycle leadership to align technology with patient care delivery.
  • Analyze clinical workflows and implement technology-driven process improvements.
  • Ensure clinical information systems support regulatory compliance, patient safety, and quality initiatives.

Enterprise EMR Implementation
  • Lead the clinical implementation of the Meditech Expanse Electronic Medical Record across the enterprise.
  • Direct clinical system design, configuration, testing, workflow validation, training, go-live planning, and post-implementation optimization.
  • Coordinate implementation activities across multiple facilities while ensuring organizational readiness.
  • Partner with executive leadership and project management teams to manage timelines, risks, milestones, and adoption strategies.
  • Serve as the primary clinical liaison for EMR vendor relationships and implementation planning.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and mentor the Clinical Applications Manager, IT Project Lead - Clinical Informatics, and clinical technology teams.
  • Build a culture focused on accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Establish project management discipline and execution standards across Clinical Informatics.
  • Support employee development, succession planning, and leadership growth.

Clinical Governance & Collaboration
  • Serve as a standing member of the organization's Clinical Technology Governance Board.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and interdisciplinary teams to prioritize technology initiatives.
  • Lead clinical workflow assessments, user acceptance testing, and clinician engagement activities.
  • Communicate technology changes effectively to both executive and clinical audiences.

Required Qualifications

Licensure
  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing with significant Clinical Informatics leadership experience will be considered.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.

Required Experience
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive healthcare information technology experience.
  • Minimum 5 years leading Clinical Informatics, Clinical Applications, or Healthcare IT teams.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct patient care experience in an acute care, rehabilitation, behavioral health, or post-acute setting.
  • Minimum 3 years leading enterprise healthcare projects using formal project management methodologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership of a full lifecycle EMR implementation, including build, testing, training, go-live, and stabilization.
  • Proven experience building high-performing teams and leading organizational change.

Required Certification
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

Work Environment
