Corporate Counsel

The Corporate Counsel provides legal services as in-house counsel for Robert Half and Protiviti, handling a broad spectrum of legal matters within their assigned geographic area and/or subject matter expertise. This role requires a sophisticated understanding of legal issues affecting business operations and involves providing risk assessment, legal advice, oversight, and direction to company staff and management personnel with minor supervision from supervising attorneys. The Corporate Counsel manages low to mid-risk litigation and business conflicts, directs and manages outside counsel as needed, and makes recommendations to senior legal leadership on legal issues that arise in their area of responsibility.

What You'll Do

Routine Legal Department/Regional Support

• Assume individual responsibility on broad spectrum of legal matters.
• Provide risk assessment, legal advice, oversight, and direction to company staff and management personnel with minor supervision or feedback from supervising attorneys.
• Maintain a sophisticated understanding of legal issues affecting both Robert Half and Protiviti business operations within assigned geographic area and/or subject matter expertise.
• Manage low to mid-risk litigation and business conflicts, directing and managing outside counsel as needed with minimal oversight by supervising attorneys.

Executive Advice and Support

• Make recommendations to Assistant General Counsel and/or Associate General Counsel on legal issues that arise in their geographic area and/or subject matter expertise.
• Provide legal advice directly to senior management on legal issues related to the company's global business.

Legal Project/Case Management

• Provide support to the Senior Corporate Counsel or Assistant General Counsel on broad spectrum of legal matters across a variety of legal areas and/or geographical regions.
• Manage company litigation and regulatory actions and develop conflict resolution strategies for issues raised by employees, candidates, clients, and other third parties.
• Remain attentive to all project deadlines, litigation or corporate filing deadlines.

Management of Outside Counsel

• Direct and manage outside counsel for litigation and as needed to develop and implement legal strategies to support business operations.

Research and Analysis

• Perform research and analysis independently and, as needed, work with supervising attorneys and outside counsel to analyze and recommend course of action to resolve mid to complex corporate matters, legal issues, and litigation.

Communications and Engagement

• Build rapport with clients as well as within the Legal Department.
• Initiate dialog with others to solve client's concerns, which includes helping clients understand the laws that govern their business activities, collaborating with other attorneys as needed, and providing practical and compelling ideas in support of recommendations.
• Review written materials on legal matters for clarity and technical accuracy.
• Provide clear and accurate verbal summary on legal issues.
• Provide client training and education as needed.

What You'll Need

• Education level: J.D.
• 6+ years in law firm or in-house roles
• Professional certifications/licenses: California Bar Admission
• Ability to advocate persuasively and succinctly verbally and in writing

The typical annual salary range for this position is shown below and is negotiable depending upon experience and location. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.
