Controls EngineerLocation: Liberty, NC (100% Onsite)
Position Summary Controls Engineer to support battery manufacturing operations and new model launches at its Liberty, NC Battery Manufacturing facility. This role focuses on implementing and maintaining manufacturing control systems, industrial networks, PLC communications, MES/SCADA integration, and data collection systems that support production and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial automation, manufacturing networks, PLC programming, and manufacturing systems integration within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Support implementation of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Andon, and Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) systems.
- Configure and troubleshoot PLC communications, primarily Mitsubishi PLCs.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing network connectivity using industrial communication protocols.
- Support SCADA and visualization systems for production monitoring and line health.
- Configure, maintain, and support manufacturing servers.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot Cisco industrial network switches.
- Support capital equipment projects from planning through Start of Production (SOP).
- Coordinate network system installations and resolve field issues during equipment launches.
- Work closely with engineering, IT, production, and international teams to complete projects.
- Create technical documentation and train plant personnel on new systems.
- Support equipment installations during shutdowns, weekends, and off-shift production as needed.
- Promote Toyota's safety culture throughout all project activities.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field or 5+ years of equivalent manufacturing experience.
- Experience reading, modifying, and troubleshooting PLC programs.
- SQL, Oracle, or other database experience.
- Experience supporting industrial machine networks using Cisco equipment.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including:
- Ethernet/IP
- CC-Link
- OPC-UA
- Modbus
- FL-Net
- RFID
- RS232/RS485
- Experience with Ignition, SCADA, HMI, or similar visualization platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in manufacturing automation environments.
- Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.
- Willingness to support plant shutdowns, weekends, holidays, and off-shift work when required.
