Position SummaryThis role provides accounting, planning, tax, and financial reporting support while delivering insightful analysis of operations, budgets, and capital investments. The Plant Controller partners closely with the Plant Manager and leadership team to provide forward-looking financial insight, support strategic decision-making, and drive continuous improvement.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities- Lead and manage the monthly financial close process to ensure accurate and timely results. Ensure all close procedures are followed; prepare and post journal entries; promptly identify and resolve close-related issues. Monitor mill accrual accounts to ensure balances are properly stated at month-end. Prepare or review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including corrective actions as needed.
- Lead the annual budget (OP&B) process in partnership with the Plant Manager and department leaders, ensuring alignment with business sector strategy and validating assumptions to support spending requests.
- Assist in the preparation and financial analysis of capital appropriation requests for capital expenditures and major repair projects. Review all plant capital project requests, providing a thorough cost-benefit analysis, including Economic Value Added (EVA) impact. Ensure all projects are properly accounted for, appropriately justified, and fully auditable.
- Lead the capital project close-out process, including initiating project close-out documentation, reviewing total project spending and outstanding purchase orders, and conducting post-project financial reviews to validate results against approved assumptions.
- Collaborate with internal auditors, external auditors, and corporate staff departments as required to support audit activities, compliance initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
